i dont think bowser is trying to be marios greatest enemy, its mario thats decided to make himself bowsers greatest enemy by foiling his plans

Didn't mean to imply that was the reason Bowser goes for Peach, but either way, I do think Bowser and Wario's goals wouldn't really align so I don't think they would be allies. Wario strives to be better than Mario and to collect treasure, and I honestly think he would want to do it out of his own strength.

personally i dont think wario to be a very honourable or moral guy, i think he wouldnt care about being the leader because he doesnt need to prove to anyone hes the best, also he and waluigi work for bowser directly in a lot of the sports games cutscenes, i think mario tennis fever shows it best how they kind of do their own thing but under bowsers orders and dont really care as long as they get to blow shit up and be awesome

waluigi is a different case because he definitely DOES want to prove to everyone hes awesome lol

ik these games are made by sega but i think sega knows these characters better than nintendo

Anyways, I do actually love the characterization of Wario not caring about certain things with Mario. I do think depending on what it is, he would want to surpass those things, but when it comes to things like a title or a castle, he is confident that what he has is already better. Like how can Mario's dingy ass castle he got as a gift beat Wario's that he worked his ass off for?

As for Wario teaming up with Bowser, I do think it's also circumstantial, like how Wario works with Mario sometimes but they are still enemies. I will always consider Super Mario 64 DS the canon route purely for Wario if that wasn't made clear by that lmao.

idk why so many people point to 64ds as wario being a good guy, it can be explained as simply as wario is trying to steal the spotlight, he wants to show up mario, he sees it as an easy payday, or he doesnt know whats happening he just started following mario

Oh yeah, Wario is 100% doing it purely for the pay day. I like to imagine when he gets the stars, he's just imagining how much he can pawn them off for or how nice they would look amongst his hoard of treasure. I do at least like that the Toads warm up to Wario over the course of the game though, a lot of people appreciate Wario even if he doesn't particularly give a shit.

i dont like the idea of wario being appreciated, hes like an ogre he deserves the hate he gets in canon if everyone in the game likes him just because hes popular it sends the wrong message

i like to think hes hoarding the stars so he can go on a blood lust conquest but he keeps putting it off because hes lazy so the stars are just... around
