What IS up with that final level in WL2?

So... what is up with this level?

Supposedly it is Captain Syrup's secret hideout. Or at least the place she keeps her treasure.
But why.... .....well, everything!
Why is it made out of black orbs? Why are there giant body parts on the walls? Why are there petrified enemies trapped in the walls!?

Why would Syrup have a place like this? Did she put those enemies there? Is she harvesting them from the walls? Are they clones? Are they being birthed out the walls? Is this some sort of giant enemy uterus?
Did they die? Are they in stasis? Are they in constant pain?
Is Syrup torturing all the enemies that lost to Wario as punishment?

What are your theories?

Yeah, it's pretty fucking weird. I think something noteworthy is the level it most resembles, which is WL3's Warped Void:

I can only guess since there's no real evidence, but based on the floating cupboards making a return, maybe the petrified enemies are supposed to be retrieving Syrup's treasure?

Syrup isn't anywhere to be seen throughout the last part of the game, even though it's explicitly stated that the final treasure is hers. Not even after you finish it is she seen, instead it's the Giant Spear Man. Is it possible that the enemies in the walls mark previous attempts of Syrup attempting to get her treasure back from the Giant Spear Man?

Most other possibilities point to Syrup being disturbingly cruel as a leader, if it isn't that.

A lot of discussion here might end up sounding silly and lame creepypasta-ish, but fuck, there must be some reason the final level was made like this. I agree that it warrants discussion.

That it takes place in the music box world near the Warped Void?

Perhaps that cave is simply a portal.

Maybe it used to belong to a rival group of pirates who captured some of Syrup's henchmen and tortured them. Syrup later staged a counter attack against them and then decided to use it as a place for all of her treasures.

That's actually a pretty interesting one. Probably a gang of pirates with one enormous facial feature each.
