What 'killed' the Wario Land franchise?

As in, why did Nintendo stop making any more of them after Shake It?

Because to be honest, while I heard Shake It underperformed, it still seems like the game sold at least a million copies and it did well enough critical reception wise.

Additionally, given the game came about 7 years after the last full Wario Land game and a while after World and Master of Disguise, it was clear the series was becoming less of a priority prior to its release.

So what made Nintendo stop with the series?

Lack of a dedicated developer, every Nintendo franchise that falls under this is bound to take long hiatuses, honestly Wario was lucky to get three new platformers so quickly, after R&D1 were dissolved.

Yes, I think the lack of dedicated devs, the lack of releases, WarioWare, Smash Bros Brawl and a few other reasons, such as Nintendo's view on Wario and his future representations made people step away from Wario.

I don't have anything new to add but I would like to retract an earlier sentiment I had of the series not being "iconic" enough or having a recognizable enough identity. People may not have talked about the series much but from the sales numbers you can tell that whenever there was a new Wario Land game, people expected something good.

I mean, in that it doesn't have the same kind of established and visible fanbase as you would expect of a series that sells as well as it does.

It would be so funny if they announced that Wario Land game with the recently filed trademark soon, rendering this thread useless. :STongue:
