Why do the Very Definitely Final Chapter and Warped Void look so similar?

I never understood this. Is the former in the same alternate dimension or something? Cause it seems like they both use the foreground and style:

I dunno, but they both look cool, and the most important thing to me is that the Warped Void plays much better...

Probably reusing resources from the last game to make a new level. But I'd like to think that they are the same alternate dimension.

Yeah, it's interesting. I'm not sure if they did that to reference something or if it was merely laziness.
I'm leaning towards the idea that they wanted to have you go back to that same dimension, indeed.

The bigger question for me was always...

WHY THE HECK ARE THERE PETRIFIED ENEMIES TRAPPED IN THE WALLS?

And what's with the random eyes, ears and mouths? o-o
