Princess Shokora Thread

Wario Fan Supreme
Really feeling the love for Shokora lately, here's a thread just for the powerful princess!

I'll kick things off with this piece I commissioned recently:

princess_shokora_by_pharaoh_ink-d9ebpq8.png

Which you can see here here, by Pharaoh-Ink! I provided references for her by handing over some of Mel's fanart, and then showed a sprite sheet of the cursed shopkeeper form for pose reference, telling her to do the pose based on what she could gather from the sheet. It turned out pretty nicely, really! I believe it's the first fanarty thing about Shokora featuring the unused skateboard.

I, for one, welcome our ancient princess overlord

But in all seriousness, really happy to see this thread! The more love for Shoko, the better!

Um, I do think her inclusion in Wario Land 4 is pretty unique in terms of elements that drive the plot in the series. I do think she's a well thought out character and I'm impressed with how many parts of the game integrate parts of her character. However, I do feel like, hmm, maybe her character's been getting a bit too much credit lately? Not singling anyone out since this is just a general thing I've been feeling since the other Shokora thread. I mean I don't want to downplay her character but her role in the game is just another catalyst for Wario being Wario and in the end the game is really about Wario getting treasure again with Shokora's presence as the backstory. Don't want to start of this thread with a negative vibe but I've been wanting to say this somewhere for a while.

Interesting question that's been on my mind all day. Shokora was, of course, rather (magically) powerful in her cursed state. Would being free from her curse amplify this? Or no?

I'd say that'd depend on how rich she is at the time. Thing is it's never made certain as to whether the cursed state was what allowed her to transform into stuff, so if she'd kept on living afterwards not being able to use Frog Medals for that is a bit of a step down. Regardless of that she'd still have her intelligence, so her technical skills and creativity would persist.

I think Shoko might as well be the best character in the series, from a construction standpoint. Wario Land 4 is a great game without even getting into the subplot, yet all the elements you can find in it contribute to Shokora AND Wario's character if you stop to analyze em, which makes the best story/gameplay integration works I've seen in a LONG time.

I think the Shoko vid already said all there is to say about her and how every element of the game adds depth to her character, but seriously, I think she matters so much because it's the best showcase of Wario's character development in any of his games. You, as the player, feel like the memories matter more than the adventure, because the treasure amounts to freeing Shokora, and if you project that onto Wario it keeps the treasure hunter trait that is so important to him but now with a completely different reason. Heck, if anything what touches me the most is how Shokora is there THE WHOLE TIME, and how they laugh in relief at the end after the pyramid collapsed; seriously makes me reflect on how good of an experience the whole game was.

There's just this continuous development both in Wario and Shoko's relationship, and yours with the game, and they reflect on eachother amazingly, and if you guys tell me that ain't worth praising because the character ain't as popular as Ashley or Waluigi or because she just appears in one game then I'm just gonna go ahead and fill this thread with love because Shokora and WL4 as a whole deserve all the credit they're getting and more. Not for being some of the best Wario Land has to offer, but because games with such a good balance between a good narrative and a fun gameplay are rare as fuck to find nowadays.

sorry if I sounded pissy; people can praise things that don't deserve nearly half of the credit they get, but if you tell me that everything up there ain't worth some serious love? im GONNA FUCKIN leave ya with these two precious cinnamon rolls that changed my damn perspective on how amazing a game can be.

That little piece of art makes me so happy. Just both of those precious smiles, despite Wario's obvious want for personal space-

AWWW Im so happy it makes ya feel like that, thank you! ;v;
I like to think Wario is really oblivious to people's feelings in general but Shoko's reveal jus shook his world completelyyy and he doesn't know how to reaaaact and put into perspective the whole advENTURE AND
I dunno I just have a lot of thoughts about their relationship considering whats in the game and it makes me really admire Wario's character as a whole <333

They really do have quite a unique relationship, don't they? I mean, it's one of the few times we've seen Wario show some genuine emotion, namely the laugh the two share at the end.

That's some pretty nice fan art! Good job there!
YOO THAT LOOKS GREAT
Chance and Mel are the main source of Shoko art and bless them for it
Aww, thanks very much, guys C:

I love this little moment between her(still in her cat form)and Wario at the end of Wario land 4.
Yeah, I take them laughing together as the biggest indication that they bonded, and that Wario genuinely considered her a friend. Given that's when Shoko's theme starts to play, I think it properly cements the importance of the interaction between them.

Really I take it as a bit of the shame that a lot of people shrug this off and conclude Wario didn't really care. As with other Wario Land characters, it's as if people find reasons not to care about them.

"B-But Wario only cares about money!"

In this situation, money was simply the original motivator. While, yes, his actions are questionable, Wario is still a person. As a character, he has emotions and feelings besides greed.
