Anyone generally prefer forums over social media sites?

Because to be honest, I do. I feel the communities you see on forums are far more intelligent and mature than on something like Twitter or Facebook, and people's standards for behaviour are significantly higher. So instead of people looking for fight or blocking/downvoting anyone they disagree with, you have people willing to be part of an actual community and discuss different views and opinions.

Additionally, the layout seems a lot more usable too. Yeah it's not perfect (and scripts like XenForo have far too many unnecessary details than no one uses or cares about), but at least it's not filled to the brim with annoying javascript, infinite scroll or other design antipatterns. It's just a simple, old fashioned layout that works on any form of device and makes it much easier to understand what's going on.

Anyone else feel like this?
 
I definitely feel this, I think the point of social media is to you know. BE SOCIAL and make friends. Isn't that alot easier when joining acommunity that you are a part. Here on WarioForums we all like Wario, that's something we have in common, something for us to talk about. Twitter has super short status posts. Forums do Social media better than social media does social media.
 
I enjoy forums for having discussions or debates on topics. I use social media to inform my friends about what's going on in my life.
 
Ha! I was never built for social media. I have a real hard time whittling down my comments because... I'm not sure. I guess I just have a lot to say.
I'm by no means a chatter box in real life, however, I flat-out refuse to shorten my comments with abbreviations or internet slang.
