Anyone else hate how Discord focused communities are now?

It always annoyed me, since it basically locked useful information behind a login wall, and kept it at the mercy of a faceless corporation that could just delete everything at any time. It's especially problematic for modding and speedrunning communities, since actually getting started in any of those becomes an exercise in tediously tracking down the few communities with valuable info.

Given that Discord is apparently going 'public' soon, it's likely quality will get even worse in future, accelerating this issue if people don't switch:

So yeah, anyone else feel the same way? Or feel worried about Discord's effect on online communities?

I only made a Discord account extremely recently. The chatty aspect is nice and all but it definitely isn't a replacement for for forum sites. I always hated how some mods were locked behind Discord servers.

I talked about this in my own thread recently but yeah the over reliance on discord as an archive site, a place for mods, a pace for community, and a place for everything. Its the same issue Twitter has now, its a place for everything for everyone so its hard to quit and almost feels like a necessity for some interests/niche fandoms. Some people will only post on there, some people only post their mods on discord. Its upsetting to say the least.
