Do the characters look like rejects from different franchises?

Warelander brought this up in another topic earlier. Do the characters in this series look like they came from other different franchises and got lost somehow and ended up here?

Mona = Some kind of dating sim type of game
Jimmy = Music game
Kat & Ana = Ninja sidescroller game
Young Cricket = Kung Fu game
9-Volt = Some Captain N-style adventure game going through different game worlds (except getting it right)
Ashley = Magic quest game, or puzzle game
Orbulon = Space shooter game
Dr. Crygor (and maybe Penny too) = Mecha building/battling game
Dribble & Spitz = Racing game, or a game like Crazy Taxi
Mike = Music/rhythm game
18-Volt = Rap/Hip-hop game like PaRappa
 
Well, sure. But I don't think they were actually designed for other franchises, they were just created to be as diverse a cast as possible because it fits thematically with the nature of WarioWare's gameplay, which itself is like a bunch of random game franchises ground up in a blender together.
 
Well, the series is about various different types of microgames...no wonder the characters' appearances mostly reflect the kind of games they make!

Also love it when everyone forgets that she does different things in the other games.

Was Twisted one of the most played WarioWare games (next to the original) or what?
 
I always thought that the characters were designed the way they are, to complement the various styles and tones of their storys, espicially in the original, where no story feels like the others, I mean think about it we have: a cartoony police chase (Mona), a more dramatic oriental adventure (Kat & Ana) and a heavy dose of old school Nintendo nostalgia (9-Volt) among others, so making the designs as diverse as the storys was only logical.
I don't mind it personally, I actually find it quite charming.
 
I never saw them as having different art styles at all. Then again, I don't tend to see 'art style' unless it blatantly doesn't fit, like Yoshi's Island DS.
 
That wasn't even what she did in the first game, where she was an ice cream vendor.


Yeah, we really do need more WarioWare fans.

Yeah, I agree with Waluigi and Drumribble, I think they wanted to make the characters diverse to represent different game genres.
They may look like rejects, but they're definitely made for WarioWare, I think, to represent other franchises.

So they're like... theme park versions of characters you'd find in different types of franchise/genre?

Kind of like how the Paper Mario settings are theme park versions of different genres (like Fairytale for chapter 1 in Thousand Year Door, or Horror for chapter 4, or Mystery fiction for chapter 6)?
