In Smash Ultimate, does Wario's gold button count as reference to Wario Land 4?

I've used this as examples to Wario Land portrayal in Smash, but is it really?

I doubt it. The gold buttons seem really random? Wario's always had silver buttons since his conception and I don't know why they'd suddenly change them to gold.

I think the purple shoes were a glitch limitation with GBA coloring

"Limitation" not "glitch". It was done on purpose as the color pallet for sprites is limited on the GBA.
