Cricket is just really bland to me. I don't hate him per say, but I just didn't find him as fun or memorable as the other characters.

Young Cricket, he seems like a pointless character and one that isn't well thought out. Like a generic anime hero.

I, ummm, like 'em all? I mean, sure, Doris 1 just happened to show up, Lulu is just part of the plot and what-not, but even they have some charm to them. And yes, Young Cricket is bland and stuff, but he's just a reflexion on the game he started from. So I don't understand the hate for the characters, "hate" is a bit of a strong word and I find them all quite likeable.

Don't think Smooth Moves is ¨bland¨ at all.
Right, but Young Cricket isn't that bland either, just compared to the others, he's bland. Now WarioWare Smooth Moves is a bit souless compared to the previous titles. It's just way better than DIY and Snapped. I feel like the animations were really bad, they should've worked a bit more on them. WarioWare Gold did it right in that aspect. Plus the gimmick of Smooth moves is a bit dumb. It was fun for a few hours but that's it. Blame the Wiimote for that, though.

EDIT: I never said it wasn't good! It's just less good than the previous titles! Don't hunt me down for this.

13-Amp. Don't really dislike her, I just think she's boring. Other than that, I love every character.

i don't hate anybody from this series. i like them all to some degree.

however, i'd say the character i like the least is ashley. i just find her to be a bit too mean to be really endearing, and it bothers me that she gets no real comeuppance for being such a jerk. i think that for many people, her somewhat cruel and arrogant nature is a charm point, but i personally find it really irritating. that's coming from someone who has liked their fair share of jerks.

one could say that the penalty she gets is having no friends, but she actually kind of has them through the ware employees. they obviously don't hate her. as for her "best friend" red, she treats him like garbage. though he sticks around and takes pride in being her bestie, so i guess it's cool with him?

she's not the devil or anything, but she lives up to being "the cruelest girl you'll ever meet", that's for sure.

tl;dr ashley, too mean-spirited while not being particularly charming.

Worth noting that in the Japanese script and more faithful translations she's more shy and reserved than a snarky jerk (albeit still irritable)
good point. i haven't checked out much of ashley's japanese dialogue, but i can believe it considering how different the us localization can be.

edit: i feel like i haven't looked at enough of jp ashley's dialogue to give her a fair judgement.

there's two examples I remember off the top of my head:

In the English translation of Touched!, the victory quote for Ashley's stage is

Everyone loves me 'cause I've got a bewitching personality

but in Japanese, it's Red saying

Ashley... the world's greatest magician will be Ashley!

(Definitely prefer the US ver. there...)

The other is Game & Wario. In the NA english translation, the description for the Ashley minigame is

I'm Ashley. Join me and Red on a side-scrolling nightmare of seriously sickening sweetness."

But in the UK english, French and Japanese scripts, it's very different, more among the lines (I say "among the lines of" because I can't find any video of the UK version that doesn't cut off after a few secs, but it seems similar to the French one)

"-Hey there! I'm Red. Here's an action game where my best friend Ashley flies around in her broom! Tons of fun, right?

-... I suppose so, Red.

Gotta love Treehouse taking extremely uneccessary liberties. Anyway this is your deep Ashley lore for today

interesting stuff. kind of reminds me of orbulon's personality changes. i can see what you mean by more reserved with the g&w quote.

i find treehouse's translation work for this series pretty entertaining, but i definitely get annoyed by just how much they change sometimes.

It was a tie for me between Ashley and Lulu but in the end at least Ashley HAS character. Lulu is literally just......

An obnoxious loli who wears granny panties.
