MonaWare's (poor quality) musical recordings

That's beautiful! I've always really loved this style. It makes sense, since I'm a very reflective, nostalgic sort of fellow. I love the warm, totally relaxed vibe I get from this.

You wouldn't mind if I put some of your stuff in my private archive, would you? I'm a music lover and for years I've built and refined my own virtual warehouse of it. Classical, rock 'n roll, barbershop, heavy metal, jazz, pop, disco, bossa nova, swing, ragtime.... there's not much in this world I don't like (I do draw a line at some things, mind you).

Haha ah me too : p I actually like to use that word "reflective" specifically as well : p I actually do spend alot of time sitting alone quietly thinking about stuff, and talking about them with someone else later on : p
And yeah, I was really excited with what I came up with here, actually part of it, I guess the second part after the first like four measures, I wrote that little ditty a long time ago actually : p Ive always really liked it and wanted to use it for something. I did that little part from the first four measures last night and apparently decided they fit together : p

And haha uhhhh sure : p If you really want to keep it its all yours : p Am surprised that you do though, haha : p I can put them all in one list here to make it easier if youd like. And Id like to see your collection : p

You ought to be excited! You've got potential, and I don't think you should sell yourself short. Practice, practice, practice. It's a pleasant little piece, and I'm not just saying "can I keep it?" to be nice or patronising. As you know by now, something doesn't have to be a total masterpiece for me to enjoy it. I can almost always find value in a work of art, and this piece appeals to me. It reminds me of peaceful late nights spent during holidays when I was a teenager.

You want to see my music collection? Boy.... Hahah. Well, that's no small feat, but I will be starting a written register of all my music - listing works by artist, year of release etc. I'll share it with you when I get it in a presentable state!

This was sorta inspired by Mozart's Requiem, The song had a big impact on me as a kid, its such a big, dramatic and emotional piece. This song kinda makes me think about such a last act before death, and how the things we do or create before death end up being futile in the end.

It sounds decent enough to me, though the poor quality of the recording certainly takes away from the song a bit.

And don't worry. I suspect a lot of older members will return sooner or later.
 
Would be cool, or at the very least, get an influx of active new members : p

And haha yeah, the quality of the recording is downright awful : p But I liked the track and am glad I hav e some sort of recording : p I dont post on soundcloud with the hopes of achieving soundcloud fame, its just to share with friends and junk : p

Made me think of " Of Montreal " you ever thought of getting into a band? Forget if you actually answered this before or not but you should definitely continue I must join you as well playing electric guitar, please keep going these are great.

Well, id have to practice it for a while to memorize all the changes and junk, but I do think with my skill level that I could pull it off after some practice, yeah : p I do often play in a more "technical" was, bass guitar wise. I have a friend who plays guitar and ive provided many bass lines to stuff they write. I cant say ive done anything on that level for my friend, but I think I could do it if I tried : p

Interesting. I ask because the guy(Greg Lake) playing the bass was originally a guitar player but was made to play the bass for this song and was wondering how that kind of transition ends up going.

Coming from the other side, bass to guitar, it's an easy transition I think. There are a few differences between bass guitar and guitar, but in the end theyre almost the same instrument. Bass guitar came about from people just putting bass strings on electric guitar, I think, something like that. Anywho they eventually just started to make actual bass guitars. The only serious differences between the two are that the bass is one octave lower than guitar, and a standard bass comes with four strings, in the style of an actual bass. Other than that they are identical. Even size wise, a short scale bass is about the same size of a standard guitar. If you can play one, it shouldnt take you long to play the other.

There are style differences, but this is just a preference thing. Like single note bass lines that follow the drummer in a band goes well with guitar, so you often see people play this way. But of course this is just a preference thing, you can play the instrument however you want : p

So true. I've played the bass in a school band for several years, and I can say that you're totally right. Admitted, some bass lines are really quite simple, but some are very challenging, if not outright hard to master. Also, since the bass is, quite literally, the base of almost any song, playing it comes with a certain responsibility, as screwing up the bass ruins the entire song.

By the way, if you want to put your bass skills to the test, you should try playing some basslines from 1950's rock-n-roll songs. Rock Around the Clock is notoriously difficult.
Another great song to play on bass is Uptown Funk.

Oh wow, you played bass? Are you still playing? Thats way super cool, haha.

And yeah, like even when it comes to chords, kuch of what I play in chords is easier than some of the difficult single note stuff. Neither one is easier or harder on an absolute level, unless you arent really playing anything at all.

And Im not real familiar with alot of 50s rock stuff, but I bet I could totally look up videos of people playing these songs on bass on youtube : p Might do, yeah.
