Always thought it was "collecting the moonstones as we walk"...
The lyrical style is just the sort of thing you hear crazy beatniks yammering in poetry readings at jazz clubs... "Boom-bam! Know your groceries and noodle it out, like a pearl diver off the cob, or you'll be slated for crashville, daddy-o!", etc.
