In Mario Kart 7, there is an often forgotten track called Wario Shipyard. To my knowledge, this was the last time Wario Land was acknowledged in a major new Nintendo game. Wario Ware Gold had two homage microgames, but honestly this feels like a bigger deal.
The course takes place on a pirate ship setting, which is pretty common for Wario games, and even features Wario in his iconic bull hat!
Yeah I remember that track. Also remember the various Wario references in it, like the aforementioned sign and music.
The general theming seems like a reference to; the whole ship theme and aesthetic style here is very much remniscent of the first two Wario Land games (especially the SS Tea Cup).
Mario Kart 7 has some of the best tracks in the series.
Maybe not the best game overall... but come on, it has Waluigi Pinball, Airship Fortress, Maple Treeway, Koopa Cape, Luigi's Mansion, Dino Dino Jungle, etc, as well as the new ones.
