Saw this Reddit post, and thought it made a decent bit of sense:
But I can also see him getting the DK treatment too, being a resident of a place Mario and co visit (maybe Diamond City?) that offers to work with them to defeat Bowser for a price. Or perhaps works as a third party trying to scam both sides of the fight.
