Also, to be fair, wouldn't the best way to save Wario Land be to bring attention to its cast like Captain Syrup, rather than to brush the series under the rug?

Have Wario star alongside her. ^^ Maybe he's her rival, or maybe they form a reluctant duo, kinda like in Shake it, except she doesn't just stand around in a shop.

I can imagine there being some levels where you have to compete with Wario to get the treasure, almost like Gourmet Race in Kirby Super Star in that Wario would have some abilities Syrup doesn't but also some shortcomings. If they have to reluctantly cooperate, I can imagine the single-player mode allowing the player to switch between them at will during the stage, and maybe a multiplayer mode if the gameplay formula makes that possible without being incredibly awkward. If we still need a shop, we can have it manned by a Danger Duck or a Goom or something. After all, what's a captain without her crew? They'll need some presence in the game, too.
