What music are you listening to right now?

How did I miss this thread?

And haha would not have guessed that Surreal Brain liked that kinda music : p I actually figured the majority of people on this forum didnt really care for music outside videogames tbh : p

I love music, especially pretty, flowing, mellow and peaceful music. Anyone who knows me knows my strong appreciation for bass guitar, especially melodic bass guitar. I love melodic bass that plays harmonies, and arpeggio chords and all that junk : p I have a favorite, Ive been obsessed with him for a while now. Hes mostly known for an indie band called Pinback, would call them my favorite, yeah : p

He plays a huge part in the writing of the music, and much of the music is made up mostly of him and his bass. Hes way awesome.

Yeah haha after listening to what you've posted earlier with Jimmy Fallon thought you and I would have similar taste in music. The prog bands of the 60s-70s and even through the 80s carried on some magnificient mellotronic notes. Usually combining both european folk with jazz and even rock which the likes of Yes and King Crimson are most noted on and I reccommend.

King Crimson is great, sadly I currently only have one song by them : / But my little brother was a huge fan, and Ive heard alot of their music through him. I really liked them. Need to get some more music by them.

King Crimson is amongst one of the big 3 of the prog " gods " as so to speak the other two being Genesis and Yes. Some other prog bands I recommend are Gentle Giant, Emerson/Lake/Palmer, Camel, Pink Floyd(they soon became psychadelic rock though). Also it's nice to see the new generation that your brother is a huge fan of their work. Robert Fripp is one of the more talented guitarist and musicians, he is a member of King Crimson and what song might that be? If you can listen to their islands album and in the wake of posiden album as well.

Listening to this a lot lately, along with the other versions. My favorite is the one by Saitama, 2nd is by Genos - I am so loving these songs, one comes out every OVA.

Court of the Crimson King : p

And yeah, I remember wake of posiden. I generally dont listen to a whole lot of prog rock : p Depending on what youd call prog anyway. I sometimes read online people calling Pinback prog, though I dont think they qualify as that at all : p But depending on the group, I can either really like it or really hate it. With groups like The Mars Volta, the genre can be really chaotic and noisey with lots of junk going on with little actual melody.

But sometimes you can find really awesome stuff, too. The groups back in the 70s really influenced alot of music I like today, too. Oh and Emerson Lake and Palmer, they had some stuff I really liked yeah.

The term prog rock can be very vague at times sure, especially when calling certain bands that like pink floyd or pinback since they sound well different than certain others at the time especially if you compare them to King Crimson. I guess it depends on the person you talk to as well about such bands. Genre can get very crazy with certain songs and pieces exactly and speaking of that and even ELP certain songs can be one long piece or a segment of pieces forming one big song.

I actually dont know a whole lot of music from the Talking Heads, even though I hear about them alot : p That song was way cool though! I didnt like the intro, and almost just gave up on it : p Luckily I skipped forward, haha. Is definitely way cool, can definitely get into it : p

I love 80s alternative music, even some new wave stuff too. It was a way cool era for music, alot of my favorite stuff is from then, with groups like Joy Division and The Cure and Bauhaus ect ect : p It had a ton of junk, yeah : p But it also had some of the coolest music ever.

I <3 that pretty sunny sound that goes into that dark and brooding sound : p Is way awesome, these guys are up there with my favorites.

(Also instrumental music is the best : p )

Yeah Talking Heads is another one of those whacky 80s bands much like Devo. Oh man talking about Joy Divison they were definitely great.
Cycling through the 80s there has been quite a bit of good and bad alike. Mogwai sounds just as fun as these other bands posted, this is the first time I've heard of em. This song is a good first impression it's so chill.

Haha, well I liked that song you posted more than I like Devo : p I actually only know like two Devo songs though : p It kinda made me think of like B-52 though. That nerd rock sound, yeah : p

And yeah, I love Joy Division, in fact they were a huge inspiration for me with bass guitar. I remember when I first heard Love Will Tear Us Apart, at that time I thought it was the best thing I had ever heard : p In fact the first time I had ever heard it was on American Dad, that tv show : p On the episode where Steve and his friends are trying to escape the school in parody of The Warriors, when his girlfriend and her goth friends save them by playing the song and dancing to it to block them : p

I remember like really being blown away by the song and looking all over to find it : p Was the first time I had heard a melodic bass player leading a song, and was totally excited by it, and it really got me into bass guitar : p Theyve been one of my favorite groups ever since.

And yeah, Mogwai is awesome, and really diverse too. If you ever check them out, Id recommend either Rave Tapes or Hardcore Will Never Die But You Will. If you enjoy heavier stuff you can try Mr Beast, but it has a bit more distortion and edge to it. I really like it though : p Theyre way awesome, and for some reason, completely without any effort on my part, I know how to play several of their songs : p I seem to be good at stumbling across their songs when fiddling with my bass, so I think he and I must share a common playing style : p

Only know two Devo songs? Heh well here how's about I help you with that, with an entire Devo album just 4u.

Thanks for the reccommendations as well. Don't usually listen to heavier things but one band that comes to mind is Mr.Bungle. Interesting how you knew about some of these songs from american dad and family guy. Man these two shows just love putting on random music in their episodes. Remember one time american dad played a perfume song which was monochrome effect.
