I still think there's a way to achieve a middle ground and find a place for organic special effects. Nobody seems to like hard work anymore. All you need is a room full of computer whizzes and you're totally covered.

This really makes me wonder how many movie effects guys have lost their livelihood and can't find work today because CGI has made their profession largely redundant/obsolete. It makes classic flicks like the FX series really antiquated today...

Well...when it comes to modern filmmakers, I know Christopher Nolan is very particular about using practical effects as much as possible and it's something I certainly enjoy seeing.

Is she made of butter? Look at the way the knife goes in...
I love the chunky bald dude screaming and shaking the lady at the top of the stairs, while that goofy old sentimental music whines away... "waaah-wah-wah-wah-waaaaaah-wah-wahhhh..."

The Half-Life paid fangame Hunt the Freeman has voice acting by youtubers. It's an amazing catastrophe

People are charging for fan games now? Weren't paid mods already seen as a catastrophe as is? Why would anyone do this?

Either way, it sounds like an amusing trainwreck.

As for a new example, well given Nostalgia Critic did a Freakazoid episode, this scene is basically pure ham and cheese thanks to Tim Curry:

When it comes to cheesy films I definitely always go for classic horror and even sometimes just 90s and early 2000 horror flicks. A lot of the time you just end up getting very strange exploitation-like films and one of those would have to be Basket Case. One of the strangest horror films I've seen where the killer is literally a deformed fetus who takes revenge upon being removed, nothing like a giant herpes getting ready to slice some victims off. Just take a look at how these films posters are, they were really grungy even for it's debut during the early 80s, this is due to the director's influence( as the director Frank Henenlotter) watched so many exploitation films this film almost feels like one itself.

Here's just but a few scenes from some of the films they're really really bad to the point it's a fun mindless watch.

A really interesting article detailing the guy upon making the entire set as well as special effects for the film. At the time these kind of effects were mind blowing and even now it seems really well made with how the puppetry involving the fetus and all that came about, some of the shots just look impressive something we hardly get now a days with the mainly used CGI.

I already posted a clip from the gaming classic Exodus from the Earth, but I'll post the intor because I'm astounded nobody involved in the process of making this game and localizing it in english stopped to think about what the hell they were doing.

Sometimes the line between FMV cheese and CGI cut-scenes is very blurred. A lot of fun to re-enact.

"Frank, you must clarify this situation. Find out about the vaccine and what the most important..." <He just kinda breaks off there at 2:35. Is that intentional?

Puppeteering and animatronics went hand and hand with movie monsters, here's hoping we'd get more things like it in the future.
