This is an awesome concept for a yoshi island game. I can imagine Boshi+Wario, Waluigi+(small)Yoob, Mario+Yoshi(Obvious), then luigi either has a Gooshi (goo yoshi) or he has a ghost yoshi and it gives him very unique game play. They should all have unique gameplay. :O Make it like SM64 DS in that aspect.
