Was Wario originally conceived as a farmer?

So a few years ago, I remember reading a trivia section on Mariowiki that basically went

The fact that the Dragonfly [a kart in Mario Kart DS] is a tractor may imply that Wario is also a farmer (In Wario Land II, Wario keeps Chickens such as Hen, and the Fire Attack cutscene from Game & Watch Gallery 4 shows him farming).

While speculative and somewhat poorly written, I can't help but having my simian imagination ticked by it. Plus, it add a interesting twist on the plot of Super Mario Land 2 - Wario, a dissenfranchised member of the working class seeking to reclaim perfectly usable lands wastefully exploited by that dickbag capitalist jerk Mario..!

But yeah, Wario: The People's Farmer or libertarian robber baron? You Decide™.

(why yes tumblr, I was indeed referencing that tweet)

That's a pretty interesting theory. It'd go well alongside Waluigi being conceived as Foreman Spike from Wrecking Crew...

Here are some things making Wario a farmer:

-In a brief cut scene during the second chapter of WL2, Wario was really close to getting his money, but a chicken flew away from it's nest. Wario went to save the chicken instead of getting the money.

-One of Wario's Karts in MKDS was a tractor.

-Wario has a pet chicken according to WL2.

-And that he wears overalls, just like most farmers do.

But I think Nintendo wants us to see Wario as a micro game maker rather nowadays instead of a farmer.

Mario Wiki's writing is... not great, but decent enough for the most part.

I've noticed less grammar issues than on Zelda Wiki surprisingly.

Well, it would make sense considering Wario clearly loves to indulge himself once in a while *pokes belly*... that and his love for garlic. Gotta get food somehow.

Wario being a farmer could explain how he can break bricks so easily. All that work on the farm has made Wario lazy and strong (perhaps besides jumping jacks and lifting weights). That might explain why Mario dreams of picking vegetables in SMB2 (and vegetables still exist in SMB3 Advance via e-Reader Levels).

"Old McWario had a farm, e-I-e-I-o.

And on that farm he had a Garlic, e-I-e-I-o

With a garlic there, and a garlic here, garlic there, garlic everywhere!

Old McWario had a farm, e-I-e-I-o!"

What do you think of the Farmer Wario song.

Some tangential evidence, but maybe worth mentioning... In SSB4, one of the four overalls Wario colors kept from Brawl was brown and green, the colors of nature. Although I think that may have also been a P4 skin in some iteration of something, it's interesting they thought this was more important to Wario's character than the WL2/3 black and white color scheme.
