Anyway, I can't really think of anything, but I think there's some little things that men and women do differently without realising that could make her stand out. Not sure what exactly though.
Yep, it's kinda hard. Though she is rarely (or never) seen doing cute girly poses or movements, not to me anyway. Have you checked the last animation: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=twCeOv-m5QI
Kinda feels gender neutral, right?
I wouldn't say the intro is girly, but she does come across as a bit feminine in the intro, at least to me anyway. Not when she's playing the game though.
My problem is just her voice, that's my obstacle... I can't make her sound good, no matter how hard I try, I just can't do her voice for more than 5 seconds, it starts to sound bad or even hurt my voice.
About the intro, I don't look at it as a feminine pose either, I could see Mario do that (Though the pointing of the finger may look a bit more feminine, but it's a pose she has since 2009, it had to be used! xD)
About the voice again (gosh I'm slow!), since she's small (about 3 feet or around 1 meter tall) I picture a high pitched voice, though I don't want her to have an obnoxious voice, I want a raspy but still pleasent voice... I can do that but not for long, and the editing makes it sound robotic. She talks fast too.
My deep voice is bad for the job! Anyway, without that voice, I can't make her talk, I was even thinking of making the next "Blue Gets Bored" episode with text on screen, which goes against what I anticipated....
That's male puberty for you. Our deep voices makes it harder to pull of a girl's voice, although for some reason, some girls can pull off a guy's voice (Bart Simpson for example).
Just very choppy is my problem. =\ And it takes a lot of time to make it work. I work on games more than animations, which is why I have more static characters.
