I love Mario's awkward "skipping" in the beginning.

Good Lord. I must have blocked this out of my memory, because I don't remember that intro at all. This is some of the most abysmal, no-effort CG character animation I have ever seen, in anything, ever. And what's with those bizarre cuts and zooms? Who the Hell was in charge of storyboarding/staging this?

Especially bad since this is the same console generation that gave us those incredible Mario Power Tennis/ Toadstool Tour intros.

I guess Hudson just sucked at 3D animation.

Were they testing the software? You can clearly see Luigi and Wario on T-pose and just moving their joints a little.

Lots of characters are in T poses. Like, all the party hosts start out in one, and Koopa ends up stuck in one like some sort of terrible dancer.

Yes, it's from after Super Mario Sunshine. Then again, Luigi's Mansion also had a much better animated intro, so hey, this would be bad even before Mario Sunshine.

The animation of Sunshine and Luigi's Mansion always looked decent to me.

games from the N64/PS4 era had better animation then this. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aO_nEhqykvc (From Crash Bandicoot for the PS1) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1-nJXolbrG4 (From Mario Tennis for the N64) and Hudson has also done better https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0ncmkbUM7Lc (Bomberman Hero for the N64) so there's really no excuse for this besides either pure laziness or it being rushed out of the door as quickly as possible thus not having the time to properly polish it.

@TB100 (Don't delete your post) Pre-rendered and Real Time cutscenes are quite different and can't easily be compared.
