They are remaking BiS....already!? But it's not even that old! Heck, you can still play it on the 3DS with a regular cartridge.

They also skipped over Partners in Time...

And they are adding another Bowser's Minions-like mode.
I didn't care for the original Bowser's Minions, ....so I'm not really excited this time.

If you've been here last time we discussed a ML remake, then you know I wasn't a fan of how many corners were cut in Superstar Saga 3DS. And so I'm worried the same thing might happen to BiS.
I'm also worried there will be an easy mode but no hard mode again...
And no extra content in the main story...
At least BiS already had a boss rush mode included, so they HAVE to have it this time.

...just... please don't cut as many corners this time, Nintendo. Please.

What are your thoughts?

It really should have been Partners in Time. Partners in Time is 13 years old now, is my personal favourite Mario and Luigi game, that game needed a remake much more to fix the flaws in it's gameplay, and I really liked the darker story. Not to mention you can only really play it on the DS since the Wii U Virtual Console port is a mess.

There are so many Mario RPGs that could use a remake much more than this game.
But I guess they had a lot of assets they could recycle for this one. :S3:

I'm still bitter they are skipping a Partners in Time remake, because like I mentioned, that game needs one more than Bowser's Inside Story, and it feels weird skipping an installment of the series, even if fan reception of that game wasn't as good as the first and third. Who's willing to bet they'll remove the frozen Shroobs in Bowser's Castle?

To be honest, we don't NEED these remakes. The DS games have aged really well. They don't benefit THAT much from a remake.
A game like Super Mario RPG, which hasn't aged as well, would benefit much more from it. That game looks pretty terrible by today's standards, like any game with pre-rendered sprites (DKC style).
I mean other pixel-art games have the benefit of looking stylized today, rather than restricted.
Partners in Time's sprites still look good.
Bowser's Inside Story's sprites do too.
At least Superstar Saga was a GBA game, not a DS game. So there was a big graphical difference.

I mean it's cool to see these games remade... but at the end of the day it doesn't add THAT much.
Remake Super Mario RPG instead.
Or Paper Mario 1.
Or another game altogether!

This screams of shitty cash grab, "Let's remake a relatively recent game that everyone likes with reused assets"
They really trying to squeeze what last bit of milk from the 3DS cow that they can get i guess.
They could've remade Partners in Time, Maybe even a Paper Mario remake if they really gave a shit about the PM fans, and so soon too. I wasn't a fan of the new M&L:SS look but i assumed it was just a one time thing and a better M&L: PiT remake on the Switch would happen in a few years or something but now i'm not really with these M&L remakes.
Its not the worst thing ever as the originals will always be there (hell i played BIS some months back) so its acceptable but these M&L remakes could be so much better than what they are and its ashamed they didn't realize that potential and went the easy route.

If they remake the other RPGs o hope they get the justice they deserve.

(Bowser. Jr and the Koopalings being added doesn't make it worth the new purchase, also seeing Koopalings makes me detract from it even more:gunamused:)

Well, I'm half considering it. Haven't played a Mario & Luigi game since Paper Jam, and this remake could be a neat enough time filler.

Just realized that I never said anything about this one, but frankly I don't ''get'' why this is a thing.

I think I can get away with calling myself easier to please then most M&L fans and while it was clearly not a high-effort remake I did appreciate the existence of Superstar Saga + Bowser's Minions, along with the added cameos and Toadley in the remake portion and the Minion's Quest side mode, since it gave me confidence that Mario & Luigi, unlike Paper Mario, wouldn't be throwing out it's history and original elements and characters anytime soon, after Paper Jam made me worry about that a bit.

With that said I really don't see the point of a BIS remake, besides it just being another quick and easy title to beef up the 3DS's library a little more. SS was understandable, since that was a GBA title, which would make a remake an attractive choice for people that never got to play that one and don't have any means to get a old copy or a system that can play GBA games. BIS on the other hand is still pretty easy to come by and playable on 3DS, so the remake is essentially competing against the original there.

I just dunno, I don't want to write this off right off the bat, but this really needs to have more to it then the SS remake. I hope that the 3D sequence of that green Toad (who still has his old design!) crashing through the wall is a sign of them playing with the presentation more and in terms of new content at the very least give Bowser his own set of X Bosses, that's the absolute minimum right there.

Pretty neutral on the Minion Quest sequel, I thought the original was an okay little time waster, but I liked it more for the story, characters and writing, so I expect it to be the same here.

To be fair, any game past Superstar Saga was hard to really 'justify' remaking, since they all looked pretty modern and ran on systems you could get a hold of very easily. I mean, it's no harder running Partners in Time on a 3DS (or getting hold of it to begin with) than it is Bowser's Inside Story, and remaking Dream Team or Paper Jam would be completely pointless. I guess going with the most popular title was the only logical option there.

And yeah, I want new content too. Superstar Saga + Bowser's Minions really should have had a boss rush, shouldn't it?

Among other things.
Like a hard mode.

If I had to choose between using time and resources to either improve and add to the main game or make a side minigame from scratch, I'd choose to improve the main game instead.
It's like... THIS WAS THEIR ONE CHANCE to actually bring Superstar Saga to the level of other M&L games in terms of polish and side content.
But they SQUANDERED it.
No Boss rush. No Hard mode. Plenty of stuff removed.
It's not like we're gonna get another remake any time soon.
Instead they decided to make a minigame that you may or may not even be interested in.

This is why I get the impression they didn't take this remake seriously. They'd rather experiment around than create a definitive version of one of the most beloved Mario RPGs out there.
Or maybe they just didn't have any faith in the original game and thought they had to add a gimmick to "hook" more players.
If they just wanted to experiment, they could've released Bowser's Minions alongside the game as an E-shop title, like the many Kirby side games.
It's a shame really.

I forgot to mention, they also didn't bother to add any shortcut pipes to the dungeons, something that was standardized in the later games.
Not even one pipe in the final dungeon. :S-_-:

Partners in Time should have gotten a remake, Just due to how clunky it's combat system has aged. A remake could fix it to be more like the other games past BiS.

Although I actually don't mind the Bros Attacks being consumable items, It made PiT really unique in the long run.

...In the end this is just Nintendo trying to expand the lifespan of the 3DS by putting out (mostly remakes) as quickly as possible to keep interest. IMO they should just move on with the Switch.
