Fangames that are as good as the officials.

The phrase "[COMPANY NAME] hire this man!" is a meme at this point and I'm sure a lot of us are tired of how overhyped some fan projects can be just to put down the official media. That being said, some fan project are definitely worth the hype they have. One example for me would be Sonic Robo Blast 2 which is with absolutely no exaggeration my favorite 3D Sonic game and one of my all time favorite games in general. Sonic Triple Trouble 16-bit is also a really good game though I wouldn't say it's as good as say S3&K (best game ever made btw).

I haven't played a lot of non-Sonic fangames so I won't be able to give examples for that sorry.

So do you have a fangame in mind that you love so much you consider it to be among the originals in terms of quality?

My favourite ones that I can think of right off the bat, are

WL4 Parallel World
Ribbit the Deltarune mod
Earthbound Halloween Hack

And a lot of the Pizza Tower fan levels made with the cyop mod are really good too. A couple of them genuinely could pass as being official because they're just that good.

I'm sure more will come to mind if I really think about it.

Super Mario & The Rainbow Stars seems to be shaping up that way. Psycho Waluigi gets a lot of praise there too.

I guess stuff like Paper Mario: The Origami King Refolded and Super Mario Eclipse would just be better than their original games too...

I don't really know if it's a
fair to count mods in. Especially if they add to the game instead of changing them completely (e.g. Eclipse) because despite being very good, it'd make sense that they are better than the originals as they are the original but more.

An argument could be made for SRB2 being a Doom mode but that game has very few similarities to Doom, it's not even the same genre so I consider it fair game.

For any other game, I'd agree, but Ribbit was just SPECTACULAR. It has depth without being depressing and is just bizarre as hell. Would highly recommend checking it if you haven't.
