General Gaming social thread

Earlier today I kind of randomly thought what it would be like to see what our brain activity would like playing different kinds of video games. What would playing a story-driven game look like compared to playing a more reflex-oriented game?

Oh that reminds me of another game study i heard of, I remember my friend was telling me that there was some study about games. Some people would play neutral games which are stuff like Puyo Puyo and Minesweeper, Good games like Mario Sunshine and ChibiRobo and, bad games such as DOOM.
Then they do something (i can't remember tbh) but the idea is that games that promote violence make you more dick ish where as games about helping others inspire you to help.

Edit: oh yeah the link was still in our skype chat. https://greatergood.berkeley.edu/article/item/super_mario_helping_more_than_the_princess

My hypothesis is that something like say Sonic promotes muscle memory where as TellTale's Walking Dead elicits similar if not stronger reaction similiar to that of watching TV since media like this is relatively new in human history and humans are social creatures TV has similar influences to us like we talk to others. So if your fav WD character dies you feel bad in the same way you feel bad when you hear someone's grandpa died. Story based stuff triggers social insticts and reflex promotes your muscle memory i'd assume.

So, I watched a video comparing Super Mario 64, Super Mario Sunshine and Super Mario Galaxy 1 & 2 today, and it got me thinking about the Mario games. I was wondering what everyones favorite Mario game is.

Mine is The Thousand Year Door, hands down. I loved the story, the in game world, the characters, the gameplay, the badge system, I had a ton of fun with that game. If it were just based on platformers, though, Id definitely pick SM64. I think the levels are the most diverse. Every level in Sunshine is beachy-resort themed, and many of the levels in Galaxy are space themed. I feel like SM64 is the most like... imaginative because of it. I do love all three (four) of the platformers, though.
Ive never played any other of the Paper Mario games, sadly. But it seems like the only other ones worth playing are PM64 and maybe SPM. Hopefully Ill get a chance to play them one day, too.

TTYD is one of my favorites of course but I also want to talk about my platformer choice more which is Sunshine. I will admit Sunshine has a ton of problems but I don't know I found it really imaginative for its time. I really love how every place in the game felt like an actual place and not just a "video game level" with that being reserved for the secret levels.

It's hard for me to point a single Mario game as my favorite, especially with how many sub-series there are, if I had to make some choice though I'd say Super Mario Bros 3 and Mario & Luigi Superstar Saga fit the bill the most, those are games that I can start up and play through at any time and I never get sick of either of them

My fave is Sunshine, no others even come close. I may have liked others better in the past, but I eventually lost enthusiasm for them. Sunshine is the one that I can keep coming back to and always enjoy playing.

Fav Mario series is Mario and Luigi and the best one was Bowser's Inside story IMO so i'm inclined to say that's my favourite one and its definitely up there for me but Super Paper Mario and Super Mario All Stars + Super Mario World give it a run for its money as my most favourite Mario.
