How old is Ashley anyway?

CM30

Diamond City Mayor
Diamond City Leader
Because I remember hearing somewhere that she's 15 in the English translations of the games (and rumours that's she's closer to 5 in the Japanese ones).

But it's never really made clear. Design wise she seems pretty young (and the voice/personality back that up), while actual size wise she's taller than Orbulon and roughly on par with the other older characters.

So what is her age anyway?

On the western website for Warioware Touched
Her age is stated to be fifteen years old. ("Fifteen going on 500")
It's a bit odd considering her design, but considering she has no confirmed age in Japan (Like most of the Mario/Wario/DK characters) That's probably the closest to a somewhat canonical age we'll get for her until Nintendo says something else regarding it. (Which considering this is Nintendo we're talking about, doesn't seem too likely.)

Her original design made her look like a teenager but with each game she looked younger and younger... maybe she ages backwards.

Her ‘original design’ is the same design she has now, and it’s of a very young child.
Nah brother, that's where you're wrong

Here's the best picture of a standing Ashley during WarioWare's original artstyle.

Too lazy to make these pictures the same size but as you can clearly see, in newer stuff Ashley's proportions are way different and maybe even inconsistent.
(Also I swear that Splatoon picture is a fan-redrawn piece)

I suppose its the rounder head and pure black eyes she got in Game & Wario that made her look younger. The same way Mona looks younger too. The new style gives off a very childlike aura.

That's a small child.

What I think makes this hard to judge is also her 'size' in WarioWare Touched. In that game, she's both noticeably taller than Orbulon, and fairly normal size compared to the mansion's wall and gates.

That either means she's pretty tall for a young kid, or Orbulon is really damn short.

I know this is an old thread but I randomly stumbled upon this while browsing the forums old topics (as one does) and remembered seeing a video that tackled that exact question and I thought I'd share it, at least for that one guy who'll look up "How old is Ashley?" in a search engine and foind this topic:

Basically he says that in the west, Ashley is portrayed very differently from her Japanese interpretation, being a lot softer and shyer in the latter. So the most logical answer is to assume she is a teen in the west and a child in Japan.

Not only do I firmly believe that Ashley was intended to be around 5 to 7 years old, the insistence that she has to be 15 years old makes me uncomfortable. Like, she’s the size of some of the younger kids in the series for one thing, and the only place that claimed she was 15 years old was an old website exclusive to the english version.

I think the idea that Ashley could be teenaged just sounds… boring in my opinion. We all know that kids can still ‘work’ at WarioWare anyway.

I have a personal headcanon to why she seems to act ‘moody’ despite being a small child: she lived with a family of magic users. She had an older brother who used to care for her until a friend of his died suddenly, causing him to shift his magic focus into trying to revive his friend. His kindness towards his little sister Ashley stopped, but she was too young to understand why, so she tried to stop acting like a steretypical annoying younger sibling, which to her translated to acting emotionless.
