I probably shouldn't take this too seriously, but this point on TV Tropes about Wario Land Shake It really kind of upset me:

Franchise Killer: Although the game got good reviews, it sold poorly, and there hasn't been any non-WarioWare game starring Wario since.

Jeez, I hope not. I hope Nintendo aren't stupid enough to take Wario Land Shake It's 'low' (although 1 million + is hardly 'low') sales as meaning 'give up on the Wario Land series'. In the same way I'm hopeful they're not stupid enough to think Game & Wario's failure means WarioWare should be canned as well.

But what do you think? Is the Wario Land series really as good as dead after Shake It?

I really don't think that's possible. Sure, maybe Shake It! wasn't the best, but I highly doubt the slight failure of one title could end an entire franchise. It just doesn't make any sense...

I think the great success of the previous game's in the series and their amazing reception is enough to keep the series going.

It's been so long... nothing was said at E3.... no news in sight... I dunno... my hope is shrinking. :[
It's so sad since there's so much potential. They could do Wario Land, Wario World... even a good Wario Ware would be nice. Just a normal game with no annoying gimmicks. Just like Donkey Kong Country Tropical Freeze. Where they just focus on making a good game. That's what Wario needs. No motion controls, just fun gameplay and good visuals. Also, they need to go back to Wario's original characterization to make him likeable again. No fat guy stereotypes.

I doubt that the series is dead, but I don't exepect a new game any time soon, unless some developer becomes interested in it(like Sakurai and Kid Icarus). How well are the Land games doing on the Virtual Console anyway?
If enough people by them than Nintendo may reconice, that there is still an audience for those games....

Judging by Super Smash Bros. Brawl Sakurai either doesn't care about Wario Land or he doesn't like it.
Yeah, I wouldn't count on Sakurai to revive the series, do you have an idea what developers could be interested?
I always thought that Camelot would be an potetial one, althought they seem to be bigger fans of Donkey Kong rather than Wario......

I'd love Retro Sudios to pick up the series (if the original Wario Land team won't).
They have shown they can take an existing series and reboot it awesomely with DKC Returns and Tropical Freeze. I haven't played any of the Metroid games from them but the DK games are awesome! They have so much personality, such great gameplay, so much originality, etc. I'd love a Wario Land made by them.

Retro Studios would be my bet too. Heck, if they picked up the series, people might start liking it again! Because every 'dying' series Retro have taken on have taken off again, just look at Metroid and Donkey Kong Country!

Popular?
I've never heard of anyone who liked ice climbers on the nes and there hasn't been a new game with them since and yet they got to be playable characters in two games!
How is popularity a deciding factor in Smash?

It just seems to me they do whatever they want.
If they want to put in an NES accessory that hasn't aged well at all and make it a playable character then they will.
If they want to clone a character just to reference an old puzzle game spin-off then they will.
And if they want to put in a well-known character who has had several excellent jump&runs but instead only focus on his minigame spin-off series then they will.

My point is this:

If Sakurai made Wario completely based on Wario Land while making a point to act like WarioWare doesn't exist, people would still complain. Even if Wario Land games are based on action and, in my opinion, would make more sense in Smash Bros., that doesn't mean that they should represent one or the other.

I don't agree with Sakurai, that's not what I mean.
