Wow, that actually looks like a really nice SMB 2 ROM hack. Shame it's not further in development, it's probably something I'd write about on Gaming Reinvented if it was.
I'm trying to think who's more out of place...Mona doesn't fit in if we're going with an evil doppelganger theme. Otherwise, Boshi has little to do with Wario. Not really a complaint but just some thoughts that won't stop bouncing in my head.

Well, the graphics change are nice enough right now. Any custom music in the game?
The idea is to use various tracks from previous Wario games, optimized to the NES' capabilities. Lots of Land stuff, inevitably, but other stuff too. The slot machine mini-game, for example, is on Jimmy T's phone so it'll have the appropriate WW music.

Really, I want the game to be a giant love letter to Wario and his series as a whole, which is why I'm really trying to cram in as much stuff from across the series (including Land, Ware, World, MoS, M&W, WW, etc.) as possible. Characters, music, locations, etc.
Even Boshi/Washi, who has never interacted with Wario onscreen, is still 'connected' to him in the sense that his entire concept is based on Wario's: he's the 'bad Yoshi' to Wario's 'bad Mario'. As such, his entire character is something of a reference to Wario so I thought he'd be a great inclusion. That's the sort of 'outside-the-box' thinking I'm shooting for.

You know, I've always imagined these guys being able to grab and throw Wario after losing their maces due to their animations, one using the coin toss in the first level to open the exit gate and them being larger than him.But what if I don't want to let you spoil yourself already?
