Re WL4 voice samples - List of potential Zero-G sound packs

Yeah, that's a very familiar old man sound. So it seems like you've found that Wario Land 4 sound effect.

Can't tell for the dog sound, seems a bit different to me.

Will check the others later.

I can assure you the old man is correct, it is the same one. All others are not exact but close at least.
However, I included the dog sound because it's been brought up, it's all from Sound Canvas. There's another sound of bubbles that is pretty much the one you can hear in Wario Land 4 Soft Shell CD and WarioWare. I'll post it if you want.

What he said! If it's used in the game, it should be posted. That way, we can figure out as much of the sound effects as possible (and maybe make a real high quality soundfont from it).

Sadly, it would take me a long time to set all of those up. Although, aside from some instruments I found, there are not that many familiar sounds...
Here's another batch I have found, if I find anything else, I'll share here!

Wario's Car starting up in the intro (maybe?)

Wario Car passes by also in the intro (sounds a lot more like the original)

Some sound that seems familiar but I'm not sure where it might be from...

Bubble sounds from the SoftShell

Possibly the rain in Monsoon Jungle

Boing sound, reminds me of Spring Wario, but it might not be

As for instruments, I'll mess around with what I have to see if it sounds like the game in some way. I'll post whatever I can find!

Hey, according to this video, the fret that is heard in Monsoon Jungle's music is named "Guitar Fret Noise", and may be found in the Roland Sound Canvas as well. Could someone check that out?

Great finds! So were those all from the Roland Sound Canvas VA? If possible, could you please post exact the exact names of those tracks/sound effects as they appear in the software?

I was starting something over on MarioWiki to try and keep all this voice sample information together. Great stuff!

Yes, it is from the Roland Sound Canvas VA. Might not be the actual source, but the sounds are there.

WL4 Old Man - So, the old man sound is called "Voice Aou" under the category "SFX";
Wario Car passes - The sound of Wario's car passing by that ShyGuy pointed out is called "Car-Pass", also under "SFX"
Bubble sounds - The Bubble sounds are definitely those in the game, imo, and the sound is simply called "Bubble" in the same "SFX" category

WarioWare Space - The Lab or spaceship sound, that might be from Orbulon's ship or a space cutscene, is called "Random Sine" in the category "Synth SFX"

Still playing around with the instruments, I think the organ sound, some brass ones, bass instruments are really close or the same as the ones in Wario Land 4. I'm still working on them.

Oh, yes, of course, I completely forgot! It is the one, under the "SFX" category! It is called "Gt.FretNoise".

Thank you so much!! Have you listened to the ones that CM30 quoted earlier?

Sample: Soundtrack
Library: Roland SC-88
Song: Inside the Pyramid
Game: Wario Land 4

Instrument: Nylon Guitar
Library: Roland SC-55
Song: Wildflower Fields
Game: Wario Land 4

This brings up a question. Are all these different libraries (Roland SC-88, Roland SC-55) available in the Roland Sound Canvas VA? And are they the same as the "categories" that you mentioned (like "SFX", "Synth SFX")? I'm just trying to figure out the most consistent way to organise and present the sample source information.

Ok, I should explain better:

Roland.png

As you can see in the image, this is Sound Canvas VA's instrument selection. You have on the left a list of MAP selections, I don't know if anything changes that much, but the SC-88Pro Map (2nd on the list) seems to have all of the other ones. Inside there are categories, I know the sounds I shared are from SC-8820 Map, but I wasn't able to find anything elsewhere. And each category has a ton of intruments, of which the sound effects I shared.

And btw, the Nylon guitar doesn't really sound like the original, but like I said, I'll try to reproduce the music with those instruments, I'll share once I have something.

ALRIGHT! I have the WildFlower Field with the new set of instruments, and it sounds DAMN accurate!

Here: WL4 - Wildflower Fields

Instruments used:

1st melody (the harmonica like instument): Organ > B.Harp Basic *UPDATED*
pitching guitar or second melody: Guitar > Steel + Body
the background guitar, plays through the whole track: Guitar > Nylon-Str. Gt
and the most accurate bass ever: Bass > Fretless Bs.

Percussion is not part of the pack, also couldn't find any frog and bug sounds like the ones in the game.

I also used my own version, instead of the MIDI, tweak it and it sounds exactly like the original, which I'm proud of, btw.

That guitair twang and bass is unmistakable! Nice job!

But another thing (sorry, I'm confused again): did those instrument samples already match the pitches from Wildflower Fields? Or did you create the pitches and tempo yourself using the instrument?

I had to adjust the pitch, but it's all ajustable in the Roland Sound Canvas VA interface, so it's something that doesn't have to be done exterally. I say that because these changes could have been made when they included the sounds in the soundfont.

Also tested some of the sounds with Crescent Moon Village, but no voice clips found for it:

Crescent Moon Village

Bass (The closest one I found): Bass > TB303 Bass 2
E.Piano (The ding melody following through the song): Piano > E. Piano 1
The strings are just basic strings, by the looks of it (not it's called "Strings :" not just "Strings", both exist but sound different): Ensemble > Strings :
Percussion is also from the Sound Canvas VA and it's called "ROOM"
And the guitar that plays in the main part of the song: Guitar > Clean Half *UPDATE*

Hey! So to confirm, the following come from the "SC-8820 Map" (not the "Pro" one).

-Voice Aou
-Car-Pass
-Gt.FretNoise
-Random Sine

And did this end up being anything interesting?
Sample: Soundtrack
Library: Roland SC-88
Song: Inside the Pyramid
Game: Wario Land 4

Also this isn't very Wario related, but could you please tell me which categories the "Music Box" (Super Mario 64) and "Steel drums" (Super Mario World) come from? According to the info I have, they should both appear in the Roland SC-55 soundfont. Thanks so much, BlueJack!

Yes, those sounds are from 8820 Map. The Pro pack is an expanded version, and that is what I've been using the most, although these sounds are from the "not-Pro" version.

Music box is from SC-8820, under "Chromatic percussion", and Steel drums is from the same pack (SC-8820) under the "Percussion" category.

Sorry for bumping this thread, but I'm the guy that posted the sources of some Wario Land 4 instruments on that forum, and I've found some new instruments that were used. These are all from the SC-8820:

JzVoice Dow - Crescent Moon Village (the Dah's)

Organ 2 - The Big Board

Harp - The Big Board

I could remaster the Big Board theme if we found the source of the synth bass and the guitar that appears in it.

BTW, I've created a Google Docs table that lists the sources of instrument samples that I've recognized from video game music. If I find more instruments that have been used in Wario Land 4, I'll add them to that list.
