Shantae Thread

Wow I wanna have that art book. Can't wait to hear more about that. I hope there's some fanart in it too.

Considering WF's track record of promoting fan art, I wouldn't be surprised if they put some in there. And why not? When it's good, Shantae fan art is sooo good.

Just a reminder,

the absolutely beautiful Shantae CharaGumin went up for pre-orders yesterday, Head over to volksusastore.com if you want to secure one. 30 of them will be autographed by Cristina and are shipped randomly, so you could get a nice surprise! (personally I'm cool with or without, I already have a permanent Cristina Vee autograph on my arm. lol)

They don't ship till August 14th, but if you're like me you've been going crazy for this since it was revealed and want to be sure you've got one on lock.

I cannot praise this figure enough, it is simply gorgeous. I'm so excited to have it.

100% Shant

Just discovered this nice little fan-made video. Short, but well-made and funny.

Also this:

Sometimes I wonder why Way Forward doesn't include that much references to their other works. (But I don't know if there are any Shantae references in Mighty Swith Force since I haven't played these yet.)

Believe it or not I had not seen these yet, so thanks for the heads up. That first one is absolutely phenomenal, can't wait to see more.

The second one was cute too, never played MSF but I understood the reference.

This Shant in the tub is the cutest thing ever.

This stuff just reinforces my feeling that Shantae would work so well as a TV show...and I'm not even just saying that cause it's my favorite thing ever, I'd say it even if I wasn't a fan! It has a strong cast of characters, a colorful, interesting setting, and the potential for all kinds of stories and adventures.

I have seen that Shantae in the bathtub video multiple times now and the ¨What in the world¨-expression always gets me.wariosm2;

These videos and others I have posted before show that there are some really dedicated fans out there, like this guy who made an entire webseries (well, actually 3 videos so far)

Speaking of Shantae stuff on Youtube, this

is probably the only Shantae-related meme so far, and the only Shantae video as far as I know that reached over 1 million views. (Before it was deleted; this is a re-upload.)
Still a bit sad that even the offical trailer of Half-Genie Hero has not even 100K views, whereas some game trailers can easily have millions of views in a few days. But at least the Shantae games have one of the least amounts of dislikes you'd possibly see on any game trailer video, and that's also worth something, right?

Sorry for my anger, but this is the last thing I need right now, this kid's bullshit. I come here to have (reasonably) decent, intelligent conversations, not to deal with stuff like this. I'm a grown-ass man and I don't have time for it.

When I first heard about the development of Half-Genie Hero I was expecting that it would give us some more information about what I consider to be one of the most important, yet also the most complicated things in the Shantae universe:
Shantae's parentage. But when I saw the ending of that game, it left me with more questions than answers.

First; how does travelling to the Genie Realm actually work? In the first game Shantae declined the offer to go there, since she would never see her friends again if she did. But this is contradicted in Half-Genie Hero where she is actually in the Realm for a few minutes during the final boss fight. And the messenger at the end also entered Sequin Land from the Genie Realm without any apparent consequenses. And what happened to Shantae's mother? In Pirate's Curse, both Risky Boots and the Pirate Master himself say that it took the combined power of all the Genies to defeat him, meaning that they apparently battled themselves to death. But to me this seems unlikely, given how Shantae can finish off the Pirate Master at her own with relative ease. So what is the real reason?

Another contradiction occurs in the original game's backstory where it is told that ¨Genies began to disappear, until one day there were no more.¨ but in that very game there are full-blooded Genies in each of the labyrinths and (if I remember correctly it was in this game) there is a non-playable character who tells that ¨ Nowadays you'd be lucky if you ever get to see one.¨ proving that there are still real Genies in Sequin Land, albeit very rare.

As for Shantae's father, in Pirate's Curse, it is semi-jokingly implied that he is Karnov. (Or more likely, a Karnov lookalike) But what happened to him? Why did he left his daughter?
Also, I still don't know if uncle Mimic is Shanate's real uncle.

Sometimes I think that many of these questions are deliberately left ambigious/unanswered. But anyway, there is one thing that I can't deny: Despite how wacky and funny the games are, the endings are always very touching and heartwarming.

This is the first time for me that I see an extended play (well, 17 minutes) of the Pirate Queen's Quest, despite being uploaded over a week ago.

And this is just in: Tinkerbat transformation!

hence why Shant wasn't too shocked to meet the "genie" of Bandit Town (which was actually Risky.) Or why it wasn't hard to believe Holly Lingerbean's status as a half-genie, etc.
Yes, but keep in mind that they both pretended to be half-Genies (which Holly actually used to be when she was alive), not full Genies. In HGH the mayor talks about how there are ¨many Half-Genies protecting towns these days¨ or something among these lines.
They were just there, doing....something.
It was said that they were the protectors of the labyrinths but were imprisoned by the bosses.
Her appearance in the genie realm in HGH was under some pretty special circumstances, so I wouldn't necessarily say it was contradicted as everything was kind of thrown out of whack at that time anyway.
Yeah I have to admit that it was pretty ignorant of me to write that. In the game's good ending the messenger clearly stated that the Genies are supposed to stay in the Realm to protect the physical world. It was never said that they can't travel to the physical world if there's a good reason to do so, like informing Shantae. But it makes me wonder if the Genies have some kind of ruler, some kind of Genie counterpart to the Sequin Land Sultana, who tells them when they are allowed to visit Sequin Land.
I think it's safe to say Mimic isn't her actual uncle, but a close friend of her mother's that was entrusted with raising her daughter.
In the manual for the first game it's written that ¨he made many tremendous discoveries, including Shantae¨ so yeah.

Talking about the Shantae manual, there's something quite interesting in there regarding flying carpets: there's a drawing (most likely by Matt Bozon) of Shantae lying on a flying carpet in the background of the Contents page. This means that the flying carpet concept for the series was alive a full 14 years before we finally saw them in-game.

Holly's a half for sure, but Risky actually states that she is simply a "genie", never a half-genie. Of course, she was neither, but you know.....

Y'know, I haven't read that manual in a while. I should take it out and skim through it from time to time. Lots of neat stuff in there.
