Yes, that's right, and I found out while I was ripping sound clips from Wario World.
Don't believe me? Here's proof:

• This is one of the black jewel's laughs.
• And here it is again, slowed down. (Warning: sounds creepy)
• Notice any similarity? Here's Wario's actual laugh.

What? Another example is required?!

• Very well, this was the very first sound the black jewel made when you first encounter him.
• Once again, here it is slowed down.
• Now here's one of Wario's voice clips from Mario Tennis 64.

Shocking? Yes, Wario's own greed brought him to his doom.
A doom that he cheated out of which gave him an awesome gold castle (provided you respectfully complete the game 100%), because Wario is awesome.

Does my theory sound right or what?

I think that is actually a pretty good theory, Wario's games hit a decline after this game too! (Not counting wario ware) i would agree with your theory. also fits for a wario game.
