Aww man this thread hasn't been updated since I left? Let's fix that up. Today I got some unusually unsettling password themes for you all.

QuackShot from 1991... The first video game I ever bought, and one of the biggest staples of my childhood. It was probably the first instance a game ever gave me the chills.

This eerie theme is short but sinuous. It has a flowing quality to it, and fits like a glove with the dark environment it plays in (as shown in the video). It often floats into my head when I'm sketching spooky environments or strolling through the woods at twilight.

Its really impressive what some people could do with 16 bit music, I love the different layers of sound there, especially the sliding note (dunno what to call it). It really adds to the cheesy-spooky theme of the level.

Lately Ive been into analog recordings of piano and keyboards and other instruments. I dont know if this is actually an analog recording or if its just a keyboard effect, though the vocals and drums kinda seem to have that same sound going on.

Im curious what my bass playing would sound like with that kind of effect : p I really like it though. The piano melody already has that dark sound to it, but the monotone sound really adds to it, I think. I really like it.

Well I guess I might as well make another round here.

Let’s kill merrily. We don’t need adults.
Can we make a hundred corpses? Let’s have a competition.

If there’s Monokuma, we are invincible!
Let’s play with Monokuma, always.

Let’s kill with smile. We killed all the adults!
Let’s gather the corpses and make mountains, graveyards of adults!

Hunt! Hunt! Monokuma!
Torment! Torment! Monokuma!
If we all sing together, the blood will overflow.

With Monokuma, let’s all smile.
Let’s play with Monokuma, always.
Let’s play with Monokuma, always.

Let’s kill together. Adults are dirty.
Can we make mountain with a thousand corpses?

If there’s Monokuma, it’s a paradise for children! We are free.
Let’s play with Monokuma, always.

Let’s kill lively. Never let an adult go!
Set fire to a corpse and it becomes a campfire. Wow, so pretty!

Bite! Bite! Monokuma!
Stab! Stab! Monokuma!
If we all sing cheerfully, the blood will overflow.

With Monokuma, let’s have a boisterous celebration!
Let’s play with Monokuma, always.
Let’s play with Monokuma, always.

Heehee, that was a bit of a curve ball from me since I enjoy reading your responses to my posts. I can't help but feel an impulse to post as much music from one of my favorite series since so much of the music in it just fits with this topic. Anyway here's a couple more conventional selections from this game.

This game is by no means scary, however there's certain sections of Conker's bad fur day that just fills you with dread.
If you played the games you'd notice which two bits in-game I mean, the rising water with electricity and the spinning blades underwater on your way to Uga Booga.

This section would always build my anxiety, not only do you need to watch out for the rising water but you also need to swim from one part of the level to the other to take down each electrical cord or else it's game over. It isn't so much hard as it just gives you that anxiety plus added with the " being chased by a maniac with a chainsaw " levels of music could only make you want to try and finish it fast.

I felt the same feeling of dread swimming around in the depths of Clanker's Cavern. You can cut the atmosphere with a blade, it's so rich. Just listening to the track makes me feel short of breath, as you know you're far, far below the surface, flailing anxiously about in the murky darkness with no air.

As you say, Conker is not scary, yet the grimy, crude, and blurry textures in many old 3D games give off these dark, moody vibes we don't find in today's clean, shiny stuff.

Rare in general have always been a master of making music that really fits the atmosphere. It feels funny since Clanker's Cavern is more ominous than the actual supposedly spooky world Mad Monster Mansion. Speaking of these tight narrow corridors in Banjo-Tooie although it didn't have as much as the first game or Conker had some claustrophobic areas. Especially the mining in which you need to save that bird chick, you even had your air bubbles in that toxic area rip Banjo.

All this time and no one has placed this piece of horror on here!?
Heck, I usually can't even finish this music because of how unsettling it is. This is bone chilling to the max.

This piece of "music" I can't even go through without skipping to the next music on the list.
