Wario Forums Rules and Guidelines (Updated 03/02/2019)

Hey there! If you want a space to discuss the Wario games, you've come to the right place.

Short vague guidelines like "Don't be a jerk, that's all!" may feel good and show you're all hip and cool, but in practice they never work. If you're going to post here. please be mindful of the following points:

1. Don't do anything illegal.
Don't post download link to ROMs, don't make threat of violences against public figures, don't do anything that could land the site in hot legal waters.

2. Don't post anything graphic, whether it's porn, gore or otherwise.
Discussion of your sexual experiences or preferences is not forbidden if it complies with the above point (though why'd you post about that on a forum about the Wario video games is beyond us) but it ideally should be held in clearly marked threads for that kind of content. Posting in a thread about Wario Land 2 to announce Captain Syrup makes you very hard is just weird, man. And if you're going to sign up here to post your fetish art (even if it's not explicit in nature), do us a favour and keep that to your deviantart page.

3. Be respectful.
Don't antagonize another member, harass them in private, or export drama from other sites. If you think a user's conduct is breaking the rules or that they're trying to get under your skin, contact us. We'll see what we can do.

4. Self-promotion is fine if it's done in your signature or relevant to the board.
(ie: posting your rom hacks or fan art in the fan creation section) but don't sign up just to hawk up your Fire Emblem fansite or whatever. It'll just be deleted.

5a. Don't spam.
Makes your replies meaningful, try to keep it all in one post, and if you bump a thread, make sure your content is a new development or adds to the prior discussion.

5b. Don't threadcrap.
Joke replies and the occasional teasing is fine, but if someone creates a good-faith attempt at a discussion you find silly, just ignore it instead of replying with a dismissive crappost or attempt to derail it. If you think a discussion breaks any of the rules here, use the report function on that user's post! That being said, basic disagreement is not threadcrapping. If someone makes a thread titled "Why Wario Land 3 is worse than ebola" and I reply with something that disagrees with all of the OP's point, that's just using the forum format as intended.

6. Do not post content that's racist, hateful, or discriminatory in nature.
And do not use slurs even if in jest. This is a forum about a children's video game series after all.

7. Don't bring in off site drama

Seriously, we don't want to hear about personal issues you have about other members on other sites or forums, not do we want to be a place where people constantly rant about the problems with said other websites. If you want to complain about that sort of stuff, get a Medium account or something. Or maybe keep it to Twitter.

On a similar note, we also don't punish people for their behaviour elsewhere. So if you're going to complain about how 'toxic' some individual is on social media/Reddit/Discord/ResetEra/whatever else, please don't bother. Everyone starts with a clean slate here.

8. Relax and enjoy the site

It's an internet forum about a video game series. A good one admittedly, but a fictional series regardless. There's no need to be super serious about everything and act like you're some sort of scientist studying everything to the most minute details.

After all, if the games themselves don't take themselves too seriously:

Nor should you. It's just a game.

I think we need a rule that prohibits future members from making their own personal posting dumps, to prevent talkative members like you-know-who [@tahutoa . He meant tahutoa.] from clogging up the ''latest posts'' section with a metric fuckton of posts that no one is going to reply to, and to encourage such members from actively partaking in conversation. Threads for personal art should be just fine.
I was JUST about to angrily comment before I saw the art thing. So...
I guess I agree.

didn't know there were rules until this got updated

Yes, or maybe just abide to the good old book of rules every forums used to have

Sadly forum etiquette is becoming a lost art. Stuff like necroposting and doubleposting just aren't a thing among people who aren't used to forums.

This isn't totally related to the current conversation, but I find that the double posting rule on alot of forums is often undefined. I think its often unclear on what constitutes as a doublepost, outside having two posts in a row.

I think there should be clearer rules on such a thing, like "if no one has posted after your last post in (some amount) of hours" or whatever

Ive also totally been guilty of double posting here, like times when my addition could have just been edited in my last post, but I was lazy and just wanted to get it posted quickly. Im totally guilty of breaking rules too

Yeah I'll admit double posting isn't clearly defined here. The instances in which it usually bugs me is when someone makes a second post maybe just minutes after they made their first post.

Stuff like necroposting and doubleposting

I beg your pardon, but what's wrong with so-called necroposting? It's an open forum here where people can bring up topics and reply to threads as they please. I'd be glad if more old threads resurfaced, and double-posting can sometimes be useful to bump an old thread when the last post of it happened to be yours.

When I was more active on forums back in 2007-2009 the usual etiquette was to not reply to threads that were very old(maybe months or even years without a new post) and that it was better to make a fresh new thread if you really wanted to continue a discussion.

Yes, it keep activity going. Not only does it provide a fresh start but includes the new information from the previous thread. Like "Why is Wario fat" would continue as "Why does Wario eat so much" idk

I mean if you want a reason as to why

I see little sense in reply to a thread that hasn't had activity in 3 years and almost all the people who posted in the thread aren't even on the forums anymore

I dunno. I think most people here have unknowingly broken a rule or two, mostly with accidental derails and stuff.
If we are to keep forums alive, we have to accept that the hard 'ettiquite' is becoming old, fast.

Can uderstand the resistance against bringing up old threads, an I agree on the ''most of them are inactive now'' argument, but we don't have to constantly make new threads whenever a thread sinks below page 2 on the forum list, do we? Some topics have been brought up numerous times with the only difference being a different thread title.

Alright well I didn't want to call out anyone but I guess I can't beat around the bush anymore. What CaptainDrewBoy did here is what I meant by necroposting and a particularly extreme example; reviving an ancient thread from 5 years ago. I agree that some threads don't have an expiration date but for discussing staff duties it's probably better to start a new thread considering the forums staff from 2014 is completely different from the staff we have now as back then it was just CM30 and ShyGuyXXL
