Why is Wario Land a less popular series than Kirby or Yoshi's Island?

I don't mind the toilet humour in WarioWare, but it should be handeled carefully, or it will end up leaving you with a bitter taste instead of making you laugh.

I don't mind it if:
A) It's done in moderation. Not every third microgame needs a poop joke in it. If 300 microgames have like 2 gross jokes, that's more than enough.
and B) Wario isn't the one being gross.
...then again it was already enough that the gross-out humor was in the same game as Wario, for him to forever be associated with poop and fart jokes.

....goddamnit I hate this stereotype.

Cuteness factor. Both the Kirby series, and the Yoshi series have a cuteness factor that the Wario games don't have.

Meh, I think it all comes down to people not liking Wario (because he's meant to be hated) and thus not looking for it or try his games. I also believe people who try start with Wario Land SML3, and slap the Mario Ripoff tag on it.

People really like asshole characters like Bender or fat ugly characters like Fat Bastard if they are handled right. They can be really funny.

When it comes to lovable chunky bastards, Wario is a dab hand! He's just a victim of circumstance. Sometimes you'll meet a man at a table discussion who knows a little about his background, but for the vast majority, when you say "Wario", people will respond with "Doh, I missed!" or "I'm-a gonna ween!"

When you think about Wario's image in pop culture, anything beyond a Mario party or sporting event seems foreign, obscure, or irrelevant to the masses.
