Not exactly about Wario but a character from a franchise where he originated in, And I see a lot of Smash Bros. topics in this section even for other characters... And this is a fairly common debate but, um...
...Yeah. Did somebody punch his grandma or something? Why is Mario so angry in the recent Smash games? :V I feel Melee was the only game to make him look serious while still being accurate as he still had a smile on his face often.
Well, in this game Mario isn't really himself, he's a toy from somebody's imagination. Also add to the fact that he's fighting Nintendo's best, he's gotta show he's ready to fight, you wouldn't smile too much when knowing you're going up against the best of the best!
Mario has a serious side sometimes, although it is indeed exaggerated in Smash. In Mario Kart 8, he's all happy and enthusiastic, but Smash? "I'm-a beat you up!!"
