I recently completed Mario Odyssey (100%)... for the second time. :Sglee:

Of course, 100% means all 880 of the regular moons, enough of the infinite shop moons to get to 999 moons total, and all regional coins, costumes and souvenirs.
I admit, it was hard at times, it was really frustrating at times, but overall, even the send time through it was still really fun.

So what about you? Did you do it? Did you at least try it? Or are you just not a completionist?
If you tried, what did you think was the hardest part?
And did you think it was fair?

I think they could've reduced the score goals for getting the second moons in the jump rope and volleyball minigames from 100 to 70 or 80, to make them less exasperating. I mean really, once you get to 70 you've pretty much proven you're good enough.

Yeah, though I'm not gonna go for 100% completion again. Find the postgame side challenges more obnoxious than fun, and am just happy to have beaten everything for the first time. Also, not gonna spend thousands on buying Power Moons to reach 999 for a second time either.

As for what I'd say is the hardest part... well it depends:

Hardest Platforming Sequence: Vanishing Road/Breakdown Road Redo (Dark Side of the Moon). Both were more brutal than the Darker Side in my opinion.
Hardest Boss: Hard to say. Some of the rematches were annoying.
Hardest Mini Game Challenge: Probably the Jump Rope thing. You either get it or you don't, probably based on how good your timing is and whether you have any sort of rhythm at all. If you don't, you're likely just not completing it.

As for whether everything is fair... eh, I'm not sure. Don't feel that mini games which completely change the mechanics of a title are a good idea to begin with, especially outside of 'party' titles like Mario Party and WarioWare. Add some frustrating control schemes and intricacies (like Bound Bowl being near impossible to steer in and Jump Rope being wrecked by the double jump mechanics) and it sometimes feels like the game would have been better without them at all.

Also, not gonna spend thousands on buying Power Moons to reach 999 for a second time either.
Funny thing, that. xD
When I first played the game I had no idea you could buy infinite moons (I still don't get why they let you do that, instead of just letting you buy 119 moons to get to 999) so I just kept buying more and more moons, thinking "There MUST be an end to this! There just HAS TO!" ...but there never was, so I probably just wasted way too much cash. :STongue2:

Maybe they added all those shop moons to be able to say "You collect a total of 999 moons!" even though 119 of those are just coins you have to collect.

Yeah, I feel like the volleyball shouldn't require 100 for the second moon.

I've completed the darker side of the moon, though I still have plenty to go until I've done everything. I'm still over 300 moons away from 999, there's plenty of purple coin things I need to find, I still need to buy the 9999 coin outfit and such. I'm going to need to listen to music to have the patience for the volleyball moon.

Wow. How many moons do you actually need to get until you can get up to 999 by grinding for coins, then?

I finished with 999 moons, all purple coins etc. around 10 days ago. The coin grinding didn't take as long as I thought it would, at least in comparison to some other games out there.

You can buy more than 119 moons, although it's pointless as the moon counter doesn't go over 999.
Yup.
Which had me confused, since I kept buying more and more moons, expecting there to be an end to it... I don't quite see the point behind it. Maybe if you're not good enough at getting enough regular moons to get to the post-game levels? I dunno...

It's there for two reasons:

1. As you said, to let less skilled or impatient players unlock the last two kingdoms (Dark Side at 250, Darker Side at 500).

2. In addition to providing an extra reward for bored players via the hat and fireworks unlocked at the 999 Moons mark.

The problem with that is, if you're not skilled enough to get 250 and 500 moons (which is NOT a lot of moons in the grand scheme of things) then you're probably not gonna have much fun with the dark and darker sides of the moon, seeing how those are preeetty challenging as well.

Yes, but surely, you have to collect some moons, right? Or can you start buying moons right from the start of the game?

It's also good for speedrunners too.
