If You Developed the Next Wario Game...

I personally would keep the Ware cast out, or rather their world. Wario has never needed helpers.

Protip: Guide characters are helpers. Warioland 4 had a guide character(Shokora). Also, Syrup in Shake Dimension/Shake It was functionally a helper too, so no, Wario has certainly had helpers before.

Also, a Kirby 64 style helper system(outside Dedede) would be completely unintrusive and benefit the atmosphere of the game at no cost to the gameplay.

I wanna ask you something...How did you become so smart and all knowing? lol

Shokora and Syrup were more of a 'pay to use assist', you didn't ever need them, especially Skokora. Syrup only 'helped' because she wanted the treasure for herself and she knew she could get Wario to do the dirty work due their past experiences with each other. They weren't straight out helpers.

Both of these characters only offered items, that either hurt the boss or increased your health. They did nothing to actual gameplay (other than making it easier, but I'm talking about actual changes as a whole). (Other than being forced to buy maps to access the next area in Shake It!......which wasn't a good thing and required grinding which actually HURT the overall experience).

So rather or not they were 'guide characters' doesn't really matter as it was nearly completely irrelevant to the actual gameplay. Unless I am overlooking something here, I don't see it.

EDIT: If I made this post sound a bit off, you'll have to excuse me I just got off work after a twelve hour shift and haven't been able to access the forums for a couple or so days.

Going back to the Kirby 64 analogy, it wouldn't be intrusive at all. Aside from Dedede, they mostly appeared in the background and helped in some minor way, like Adeleine providing items at a certain point in the stage, or Waddle Dee helping Kirby with certain stage elements like vehicles. If they were to appear in a Wario Land game, of course the WarioWare cast wouldn't have a huge impact on the gameplay; it's meant to focus almost completely on Wario and his actions. However, were they to appear, they would likely have some minor way that they would help Wario when they appear periodically throughout the game.

If I could make a game about Wario it would be a game where wario finds a diamond that can shrink and grow things, and Waluigi on his side they cause weird chaos for everyone.
it would be a 2d platformer similar to wario land, with all his moves and his drill car intact.

There are some minerials that are too small or solid for you to shrink, and vice versa.
And maybe some bosses that can be a bit complex.

I don't wanna sound all purist or anything but I dont think any mix up of land/ware/waluigi is a good idea. Wario Land involves different setups and enemies every time (2 being the exception) and I think it helps an awful lot to the adventuring spirit Wario kinda sorta invokes, like he's going to different places for treasure every time. Bounding it to Diamond City for the sake of keeping a familiar location would get in the way and I don't think the cast could add much to the game itself besides making fans of Ware excited to see them in action. Not as bad as adding Waluigi tho since that would most likely lead to a Land version of NSMB.

I do like the idea of mixing the important characters in Diamond City as a set up, but I think it would suit a cartoon of sorts rather than a game. Bonus points if we make a time machine and put it right on the time where earthworm jim and the smb cartoon were the cool kids of tv. IMAGINE

I also agree that Wario doesn't need any 'helpers' (as in, someone he could potentially share the spotlight or victory with), but I do like a competitive sort of 2-player gimmick, having the Four Swords sorta spirit where you need your partner to progress but its even better if it hurts them. You know that boss battle of Dunk/Shoot? where you need to make him a ball to score but he can do the same with you? that kinda sorta deal but like... more. Something that allows for puzzle solving while keeping the quick action, same sense of humilliating humor, pushes you to be efficient rather than just getting to the end without dying... I wouldn't mind a new character for the role but I think Syrup fits the bill without having to make a new one.

The only plausible way I could see the Ware cast in a Land game is if they were to host minigames or sets of microgames, and/or makeshift shops where you get them, a la the Game and Item shops in WL4. Given that the Wario Land games are no stranger to minigames in pretty much all installments, it wouldn't be too unnatural. Out of personal preference I'd like to see interesting new characters since the series tends to do that well, but that's not to say the Ware cast couldn't work, because I think they might if done with a sense of proper priority. I consider Rayman Origins as a good example of elegant cast-combination so don't think I'm inherently opposed to the idea.

Waluigi sucks ass. Keep him in the Mario cashgrab shit where he belongs.

Hmm didn't think series that aren't too character-centric could inspire this much debate over how to handle their characters. I can say that aside from my own personal dislike for the character, I can't see how Waluigi could fit in either. Maybe he could but there's a part of me that doesn't want that. Maybe it's because it would spoil the distinctiveness of either series and make them feel more like the Mario spin-offs they really are but don't feel like.

Since Waluigi isn't known for his brute strength like Wario is, I'd have a hard time imagining him fitting in as a playable character. Essentially, he'd have to function in a different manner somehow, unless they give him something to function like the shoulder bash does (at least transformations would fit his personality). And if you're having a character who plays differently than Wario, with more emphasis on mobility or something of the sort, it may as well be Captain Syrup (although I again have a hard time seeing how well that would work without altering the gameplay too drastically). As much as I like Waluigi, I can't see him fitting into a Wario Land game that well. He'd be much better suited for the WarioWare universe.

-Wario and everyone else except Ashley and Waluigi are killed in a Koopa terrorist attack in the opening cutscenes. The pair decide to don the Nom De Guerre The Wariors in tribute to their fallen comrades
-The game is a first person shooter with an emphasis on scripted events and jumping from one set piece to another.
-In tribute to Wario World's pause screen, thep ause music is Waluigi yodeling.
-the final level consist of a QTE to knife Cyborg Bowser in the brain

Waluigi could be in a Wario game if it was an RPG since they don't require much strength, at least no physical strength. So if a Wario RPG gets real someday Waluigi wouyld be a great choice.

What if transformations affected Waluigi differently, so playing as him can result in different outcomes than as Wario? Sort of like the sonic games how different characters leads to different paths?

That's actually a really interesting idea. Slightly difficult to implement yes, but it'd certainly add a lot more to the game to have two different characters with their own transformations and level paths/goals.

I gotta go with the one large Metroidvania environment. Not linear at all. Wario can choose his own path and find treasures all over.

I'd like one big interconnected world, in addition to a treasure hunter's map, so you can quickly navigate to hot spots you've already visited, and save time.
The only qualm I ever had with VB Wario Land is how there's no way to change areas. Once you reach the top floor (Demon Head), if you left a treasure down on the very bottom floor, you have to travel alllll the way back down through the entire game. One of the many quirks this game shared with Metroid II. Heheh...
