Should Syrup Slice with Sharp Swords?

#2 Captain Syrup Apologist
In my time of being a Wario Land fan I've browsed a fair share of fanart, and when it comes to portrayals of Wario's original big bad Captain Syrup, I ocassionally notice something that catches my eye: some fanart depicts Syrup as a more traditional pirate by giving her a sword, or cutlass to be more pirate-precise. Here's a couple of pieces from different artists, for example...

There is of course more fanart out there that follows this trend; I wouldn't make this thread if those two pieces were my only evidence. For a much more complicated example I've seen, we have this SM64 Co-Op Deluxe mod that makes Syrup a playable character alongside Wario and Waluigi, which also gives her a sword with slashing momentum-building attacks not dissimilar to Wario's own shoulder charges. She essentially has a moveset built around a weapon that, in canon, she doesn't even use!

I should say I'm not against this portrayal of the Captain, if anything that character mod shows an interesting way to make her play similarly to Wario while still giving her a fresh, pointy flair. I just find it funny how multiple fans have come up with the idea to give the pirate a proper pirate weapon, since Syrup's previous methods have been less than conventional, especially in Wario Land II where she constantly dukes it out with Wario in machines. Which brings me to the thread's question: if (...when...) Syrup makes her return, would you like to see her brandish more traditional pirate weaponry, like swords?

Personally, I think it could be interesting, though I wouldn't want her character to be retconned from previous incarnations entirely. Syrup using machines gave her methods a sense of slap-dashedness and artificiality on top of being subversive, which I find very fitting.

I think it would be cool to see Syrup use a sword in a boss fight. Typing this reminded me of the pirate antagonist, Risky Boots, from the Shantae series. Risky uses a bunch of gadgets, machines, and minions like Syrup does, but also uses a sword attack.

That's a fair comparison that might explain this phenomenon actually. Maybe people project Risky onto Syrup somewhat, and therefore draw her with a sword, the one thing she lacks on the surface in comparison.
