The differences between the B&W WL2 and the color WL2

Hm... the GBC version is still good though, right?
Because my copy of Wario Land II won't save anymore, and I'd like to play it again so I was thinking of getting the GBC version, as I hadn't ever played that yet.
Is the GBC version way inferior to the original or are they both good?
I would say the GBC version is even better because color makes the game look so much better.

There's really no big differences (Besides the enemy that this thread mentioned a lot), though I still recommend the GBC version like JoeKarta said,it looks nicer.

They're both brilliant, and the differences are very few. For me I prefer to own both versions, for nostalgia sake as well as the fact they do have differences, however slight.
If you don't care about a missing unique aquatic enemy, a few differences in appearance and physics etc. than yes, get the colour version. Some of the areas look very pleasant and lively with full colour (the sunset woods level in the Syrup Castle chapter).

So I just downloaded a rom of the B&W version and I'm gonna play through it in its entirety and if I notice any more notable differences (not gonna mention every pixel that's different) then I'll let you know.
Right now all the physics feel the same. But there's a bit of lag when you break a lot of boxes or walls but maybe that's because of the emulator.

Hey, @CM30 , here's an image of the fish, if you wanna put it on the wiki:

Nah, it's not the emulator. The processing power on the original GB version is much weaker. There is a fair bit of slow down when you're breaking a ton of blocks (it happens regardless of what system I play my copy on).

Ok, so one change I'm really glad about is that in the original when the game saved, the background of the "Save Complete" screen is flashing really unpleasantly. In the "DX" one it stays one color, thank god.
It's not seizure level of flashing but still.

Ok, I might have a problem. The room with the moray eels is full of glitches. It's probably a problem with the emulator cuz I don't expect Nintendo to release the game in such a glitchy state. When I collect the first few coins or when I touch certain parts of the wall or even just when one of the eels gets me Wario just starts falling though the level, the scrolling screws up and pretty soon the emulator crashes. This also happens whenever I exit the treasure room so I'm not sure if I can even get that treasure at all. So I may not be able to check out the really final chapter. :/

I've been playing the main route and one change to the actual level design I noticed is in the level "Defeat Bobo". In the symmetrical room with the 2 blades that come up from the ground on either side: In the B&W version those were originally just 2 Punch enemies.
Another change is that the skulls above the boss doors and the stars above the exit doors are in the foreground for some reason so you can jump behind them.

Also, on Wario's sprites they didn't just change the shading to solid colors and removed the outlines, the original also had a lot more sprites where his shoes were a different color from his overalls.

In the GBC version you can't see the legs here.
The wizard gooms have a very bright robe (white, I guess).

And I love how the angler fish looks in this.

He looks like a spongebob character.
And yeah, the bee.

The new one looks much better if you ask me.

You're doing some great work here, Shyster. If I had the time I'd do a simultaneous, level-by-level playthrough of both my old cartridges (to eliminate the possibility of emulator glitches). Of course, I wouldn't have the advantage of screenshots/sprite shots like you.

Thanks. ^^ Well, if I can't get to the final level due to glitches then at least you can. ^^

Did that get fixed in the GBC version? It never bothered me too much, but yes, there can be quite some lag when you have a lot of breaking particles and coins on the screen at once.

If you've never played the GBC version It's a world of difference to the original black and white one. The things being discussed here are extremely minor in my opinion. ;)

This is definitly fixed in the gbc version. ^^

Okay, this is not a difference but I just noticed something that I've NEVER noticed before.
Apparently the bubble boss has a different getting hit animation if you hit him RIGHT as he turns after hitting a wall, when he isn't leaning to one side.

Sorry, I can only get a screenshot right now.
I'll post all the other differences I've found once I beat every level. Just 2 more chapters. ^^

Good news, everyone!

I somehow managed to get the last treasure after all! Though something weird happened... when I got the treasure the game just acted as if I had finished the level. I didn't have to actually go to the exit. Is that normal? Can someone confirm that? Cuz I don't remember that happening last time. Maybe my last collectible was always the picture panel...

Anyway, here's what else I found:

These pots aren't there in the color version for whatever reason.
Here's the enigma bottle:

Looks a bit different.
The water here has no surface animation:

This is how the ghost looks. Pretty cool. The extra details aren't there in the colored version. Oh sorry, in the version of color.

Syrup's gadget here is much lighter and the Spearbot doesn't turn dark when it gets stunned.

The owl is gray.

The fake coin actually has a different sprite. In the GBC version it just has a different tint.

And here's the final level. Pretty much looks the same.
