Ha, this reminds me of something I once pointed out in the Shantae Thread. But despite those stereotypically genie or elfish feautures, he's most likely just human, although with special powers like most humans in the Mario universe.
He's more dwarflike than elven if you ask me
While I know it isn't possible, I've always tossed around the idea in my head that he could be of Hylian descent.
Well, this old Nintendo guide referred to Mario's species as 'homo nintendonus'. So maybe that's Wario's species as well. Human sub species specific to the Mushroom Kingdom.
