David Cronenberg is another really good horror director, with the fly as well as videodrome it's really amazing and interesting just how during the 70s and 80s people really have to bust their asses to make such believable special effects like these. We can't forget Troma films especially the toxic avenger! It's the costumes, and effects on body horror that make such movie magic special at least during it's time. For now it might seem old fashion but these movies really did pave the way for movies in the future as well as inspired certain video games hence cheesy lines that Duke Nukem says.

Too right, you have to respect the classics. I really love the old practical effects where you had to get your hands dirty. The use of creepy claymation, animatronics and other materials really gives you a kick that you simply don't get from CGI. I think the reason so many people suffer from phobias and the 'uncanny valley' these days is because CGI is too clean and has no character. You don't see a great deal of puppetry and creative special effects any more.

Very acquainted with the masterful puppets even Jim Henson has created movies not just stuff for Sesame Street and they are pretty marvelous. The uncanny valley is what truly makes these films jump out at you, since it really takes time and dedication to pretty much hand print and put these pieces apart and together. Japanese films often practice this when making Kaiju or Kaijin(basically just monster in Japanese.) some look really rad and others look ugly as sin but hey that's the beauty. The phobia can be linked to something similar to clowns that spooky unnatural feel which it can be a bad thing for certain people.

CGI getting used to it especially now, like to watch a lot of Kamen Rider(Japanese super hero meta-series) and it has a ton of CG included. For me I don't mind it really it may not be the same as a puppet or suits but it keeps it's charms even if it looks stupid but that's the point to use imagination. Same goes for Super Sentai(Power Rangers) and their awkward looking monster designs.
