Why Wario WILL be in the third Mario movie! (+ other predictions)

With the release of the final Mario Galaxy movie trailer and the film's release on the horizon, I have no qualms exclaiming the hard truth: Wario isn't gonna show up in such an already-cluttered movie! While we could all join hands and cry at our beloved antiherio's absence, I have brighter news to bear. It's no secret that Nintendo are snowballing into the film market, so a third Mario movie is surely going to be teased after the credits... and I have utmost confidence that Wario will not only appear, but be a major character!

My reasoning for this conclusion is simple. Between Rosalina, Bowser Jr., and Yoshi, as well as a gaggle of Mario "2SA" enemies revealed in the final trailer, there aren't many more major Mario characters that could be revealed for sequels, are there? Even if there is a demand for spin-off representation, I doubt they will get the focus of a film before all major characters are out of the way. This currently leaves pretty slim pickings across the main Mario cast... Wario (and Waluigi) included! Not only this, but he is the most likely candidates for villainous roles after Bowser and Junior, unless Toadette is hiding some dark secret that not even I could see coming.

If that were all the evidence I had however, I wouldn't be so confident. What seals the deal is another character seemingly absent from even the final trailer, that would be an easy inclusion for a sequel as well, another member of the main cast... of course, I'm talking about Daisy! The final princess that got skipped over because making a Galaxy movie took the profit priority! You might think she'll appear in the film, but given the Sand Kingdom was showcased in the final trailer with her absent (despite such a location being ideal for Sarasaland) I think at best she will get a small cameo. This movie ain't focusing on her, or Wario... which would make them both perfect for the next!

Wario and Daisy being reveals for the next film makes even more sense when you also consider their shared origin: the Mario Land duology. I don't know how exactly the plot will play out, but with Wario as a villain and Daisy as another protagonist, they can surely slot in somewhere while bringing some Land imagery with them. It is also important to mention that with Wario on the horizon, Waluigi is likely not far behind, as I'm sure his popularity would not go unnoticed by the filmmakers, though whatever imagery he brings along I can only leave to the imagination.

So if you're going to see the Galaxy movie bummed about a lack of Wario, just hold out for that post-credits scene and a familiar yellow cap will grace your eyes! Get excited for the inevitable official reveal of Danny DeVito as Wario! And of course, hope and pray there aren't any fart jokes... that of course being a joke itself since this is Illumination we're talking about. Hm. Hope and pray that for every fart joke, there are 10 shoulder charges. I guess that's a compromise...

That does make sense. A loose adaptation of the Super Mario Land games could be a possible follow up here, and if they included enemies from that game (like Tatanga or some of the Mario Land 2 bosses), really neat to see.

I have to admit I'm not as worried about the fart jokes as I could be though. The Mario movie was under tight Nintendo supervision, and it seems like both films feature tons of cameos and references to older games. So, however Wario is implemented in the story, I'm pretty sure it'll take inspiration from both his platforming and WarioWare games alike, rather than make him as one note as in say, Super Smash Bros. That and Nintendo seems uninterested in letting Illumination go the toilet humour route in these films, since it's basically non-existent in the first one and the Galaxy Movie trailers.

Hence I feel like we could get a very 'respectful' Wario appearance here.
