Drill Fish sprites...

CM30

Diamond City Mayor
Diamond City Leader
Remember that enemy from Catbat's boss battle?

I tried to rip it:

Not sure how well my rip worked, since the cloud of smoke it spawns with makes it a pain in the ass to figure out what bits should be transparent and which shouldn't.

No death animatiom, it doesn't have one. You just see small 'stars' apparently, like when you ground pound a normal enemy.

Probably. Wish you could separate sprites in emulator, so I could verify this...
You can with VisualBoyAdvance using the tile viewer tool.
That way you can see stuff like this:
catbat.PNG

So yeah, I guess this answers it.
You can also choose wich palettes it uses, that's why some sprites have weird colors.

It's interesting to see how they made these sprites.
Now I also know why Catbat's tongue always looked weird to me when it plays the getting hit animation.
In the game it looks like this:
catbat2.png

But it's supposed to be like this to make it curl:
catbat3.png

Not sure if it was done on purpose to make the expression even more exaggerated or simply an oversight but this way it always looked like it had a ring on it's tongue or something.

It's pretty neat too, especially given how absolutely no one would think to try that. Same with the crocodiles in Monsoon Jungle.

But yeah, congrats on ripping the sprites yourself! Your version looks way better, and should probably be posted to the Spriter's Resource and Mario Fan Games Galaxy.

My guess is they didn't actually intend it to be possible but all enemies share some basic coding that makes it possible to destroy them with charged attacks, unless coded otherwise, and in this case they weren't coded otherwise.

Thanks. I'd do that if I wasn't so lazy... :STongue3: If you want you can take my sheet and upload it as your own. Got my permission. :STongue:

The crocodiles drop money though, so I suspect they planned you to kill them one way or another.

And yeah, maybe I'll post it there later.

Looks good to me, man.

Yeah, I meant the robot has basic AI, not both.

You know, I never actually tried to kill the crocodiles that way...

*tries it*

Ok, this is really difficult to do since you can't just drop down on them. The second they are under your butt they shoot up and bite you, even if your ground pound is already charged up so you have to hit them after they have jumped and are doing that thing where they quickly swim in one direction for a while after landing back in the water. So it requires really precise timing. And of course, if you're going for max money you can't get hit either.

One way to kill one which is a lot more easy to do is this:
gator.png

You have to get fat in the room with all the archers and monkeys and then walk over there. This is most likely the way they intended it to be possible.
Of course, this only works for one of the many gators.

Neither of those methods seems as 'water-tight' as just luring them to the shore and nailing them when they jump. I thought that was the most logical/safest method (but you have to be bloody quick to grab the money before it falls off screen, AND make sure you're not bitten by the other gators).

You CAN?

Holy fuck.... ....and to think all these years I thought they were just invincible. :STwitch:

They're much trickier to kill than their croc cousins in WL: SML3.

You've got to lure them to the shore, get out of the water and wait until they're about to reach the wall and turn around. Then you do a little jump to lure them out of the water before delivering a jumping shoulder ram, but you need to be bloody quick (and accurate). Then you dive after their goodies before they sink off-screen. It definitely takes practice, but it is the safest method.

I didn't even know you can kill them. But judging from earlier comments it is really hard, so I won't do it because the risk of losing money and not being quick enough to get it back is too high.

I mean... with save states you could eventually get a perfect money run. :STongue3:

and...

withOUT save states you could eveeeeeeeeeentually get a perfect money run. :STongue:
