Fan Game Introducing: Wario's Conquest + SML2 Reclaimed - basically, Wario Land 0!

I'm pretty interested in testing if you would consider having me whenever the next demo is ready! Also I found some bugs purely because I like to mess around and am good at breaking things, maybe they can go in the discord if you do go through with making one but I'll just post what I found here for now

-Leaving a room after hitting a coin block the instant after the coin turns to sparkles resulted in a crash I was able to reproduce, maybe it's only possible in that one spot between the lost key and ladder room because of how close the blocks are to the exit, and is probably why I noticed the block disappear upon reentering the room
-I was messing around jumping and dashing and got stuck on the bucket near the couple with the forgotten anniversary, and also when entering the same room from the save point side I somehow got stuck on the left and it crashed, I tried really hard to reproduce it though but couldn't so that's probably a good sign
-After fixing the ship and going to talk to Tatanga, I messed up big time by shooting a big fireball right when the cutscene played, either that or maybe I accidentally talked to him by accident or something, whatever I did it caused a crash and when I reloaded, everytime Wario exited stage on the left, he would die with no way to progress the cutscene

I also got pics of the crash logs, and that being said I had an amazing time with this demo! Like others have said I don't care if its 10 minutes or 10 seconds, everything I saw was jam packed with personality and I'm gonna share it with some discord servers I'm in so just know to be proud of what you're making! The only suggestion I would have is maybe making ladders climbable even with up already being held down, and maybe bull wario being able to ground pound coin blocks could be fun (with the item blocks probably being fine as is because the item select is fun). And that's about everything I got, you nailed it!

I figured it might be best to set up a Discord server either today or tomorrow already, since a guy on YT uploaded a video of the demo and it somehow got over 5k views already...which means many more people are aware of the game now. Of course I doubt that every single one will join it, but I do have quite the list of playtesters now across Reddit, SFHQ, Youtube, Gamejolt... so I might as well create a small hub for everyone.

I haven’t actively used Discord in a few years, so I’ll need to catch up on all the new features first though :rolleyes:
 
Here they are, in the order they occurred iirc, mario then gamepad then stormmaker (but unfortunately I don't remember if the middle one was the bucket or the door, I think Wario just got stuck on top of the bucket then I went to the title screen and somewhere along the way it crashed)

Hmm, is there an option to change the controls? Tried it recently, but couldn't find one, which is a bit of a problem given that I don't use a controller for PC games and the default keybinds are really bad...
 
When it comes to the keyboard V.0.3.X only has the options of either WASD Control and Space or Arrows with C and V. Though in theory you could also use Space/Control with the Arrows, I guess :/

You aren't the only one who requested more freedom regarding that though, I got that two or three times by now, which is why I decided to simply implement fully customizable controls (alongside hotkeys even) for the future!
I usually play with my old but trustworthy xbox 360 controller, I didnt really...test out the synergy of the keyboard layout.

If you insist on using the keyboard, then you could use a remapping software though.
But like I said, it shouldn't be an issue anymore in the future. Sorry though!
 
Thanks for adding control remapping. I'm not a huge fan of WASD controls since I didn't really grow up with games like Doom, so being able to map them the way I do my emulators will help a lot. The current control schemes just don't feel natural right now, sorry.

No big deal, here is a sneak peak for the new custom keybinding feature!
It's still barebones right now (just like the whole options screen for that matter), but it's there at least.

The video also shows a new location and a new feature...sucking. It's based on Wario's ...iconic ability from Wario World. It doesn't really have many practical uses, but it looked funny so I'll keep it lol
 
Well, I created the official discord server for the game. I will post weekly sneak peaks there and also publish private playtester builds when the time is right. It also has sections for general chatting, feedback, bug reports and the like.
I will probably still post stuff here but if anyone wants to follow the games development and influence it directly then your best bet will be there.
