Obscure characters and other one-offs that could use more

BooDestroyer

Treasure Collector Extraordinaire
Characters that only appeared once, but could have had a good reason for returning.
Characters that, despite being so underused when they appeared, could be used a lot more if they came back.
Characters that, if they appeared a second time, would be showing up in their series more often.

Okay, did you get all that? I'll give you some time to write it all down if you have to.

Got it now? Good, let's do this.

1. Ribbon (Kirby 64)
Ribbon64.gif

Because Adeleine sucks. There, I said it.

Ribbon was the one who got the plot going in that game at all. Despite not having many in-game roles, she at least had a whole world of her own to back her up and make things more interesting. What gets me is that she still can't even get at least any cameos in later Kirby titles, despite her world's "map" theme being played at times in some of them.

No, she doesn't need to be Kirby's love interest of any of that if she does come back. But you can't deny that the Kirby series does have a very peculiar shortage of female characters. And to top it off, there are also these similar-looking characters in Triple Deluxe:

Not only that, but if Rick, Coo, and Kine can return again in the flesh…

3:38~5:10

…Well, not sure what's stopping Ribbon. But at the rate the Kirby series is going, she probably won't again.

2. Prince Peasley (M&L Superstar Saga)
300px-MnL_PrincePeasley.jpg

First off:

Why didn't he appear in Dream Team?!?

Seriously, that was the perfect opportunity for him to return in the M&L series. If several Beanbean people and the likes of Broque Monsieur (and a whole species based on him) and fucking Popple made it in that game, why not Peasley?

In short, we don't get…this kind of character in the Mario series that often. Even in Superstar Saga, he himself tried to get a bit more involved with the Mario Bros.' exploits and assist them if need be. That, and he sure added a certain kind of appeal to it. He would have been a perfect fit for Dream Team, maybe helping them out on any side-quests.

Hell, the only cameo in a later M&L title he even got was a mere 5-pixels-big poster somewhere in Peach's Castle in Partners in Time.

But there's always the 5th M&L, if ever. Maybe in that, he'll get his reappearance.

3. Mallow (Super Mario RPG)
Mallow.gif

Fuck Geno, fuck Geno, fuck Geno, fuck Geno, fuck Geno, fuck Geno, fuck Geno, fuck Geno, fuck Geno, fuck Geno, fuck Geno, fuck Geno

This guy is SMRPG's real deal.

At least Mallow also had shit to back him up, like you know, a homeland and parents that rule it. Oh, and that Frogfucius guy. Throughout the whole of SMRPG, he showed much more personality and got a lot of the story going.

And unlike most of the other SMRPG-exclusive characters, he's the one who looks and feels the most like a Mario character.

But, he won't return again because, like Geno, he too is owned by Square.

4. Anthony Higgs (Metroid: Other M)
20.jpg

Just give him a chance.

So what about Anthony now? Throughout his appearance in this game, he added a touch of comic relief to it. (At least if you can call it that) It's not the kind of thing you'd see often in a Metroid title, but he was one of its redeeming factors, nonetheless. I also wouldn't object to him being a potential P2 for Samus in another game. If anything, it could pull him out of the "side characters nobody cares about" territory of this series.

But suffice to say, he probably wouldn't have another chance. Even if there is another Metroid title in the pipes, he probably wouldn't make it. Unless the team working on one (if it's another) liked him enough to carry on with him.

5. Ravio (Zelda: A Link Between Worlds)
250px-ALBW_Ravio.png

This one might be a bit too recent, but even at this point, he looks like he could have much more going for him if he comes back in some form again. Could this guy be the next Tingle? Hell, he could probably make a minor appearance in another Zelda title for all I care. Probably the one on Wii U another 3DS title.

Hopefully, ALBW shouldn't be the one-off title that it feels like. At least they could give Ravio a spin-off series of his own, like Tingle had once.

Seconding Ribbon and Mallow, as for my personal pick:

Quint ( Megaman 2 Game Boy )
Quintbqi.png

He's technicaly a two shot, but his appearence in Megaman V is so insignificant that it might as well not even happened.
As for Quint himself : he is Megaman from the future, who got reprogramed by Dr. Wily, to fight his past self and somehow they managed to give him the lamest boss fight in the history of the franchise...

Yes, that's it...
We don't even get any closure as to what happened to him, you beat him, he teleports away and isn't seen again until Megaman V, where he pulls the same stategy as he did last time and ultimatly get's destroyed, leaving his own timeline with no Megaman left to protect it...
So yeah, this guy needs a comeback with an proper boss fight, story elaboration and some sweet music, like this:

Professor E Gadd. Okay, he appeared in Luigi's Mansion 2, but he's basically been gone from the Mario series since the Gamecube days. Why didn't he appear in Mario & Luigi Dream Team? Pi'illo Island was a perfect place for him to have another lab...

Other than him...

The Massifs from Dream Team. These guys are basically MADE for a new Mario & Luigi game, whether that be as an important NPC, team up characters like Bowser or just background characters in general. And given their jobs as tour guides... well, it can't be too hard to include them in Mario & Luigi 5 or 6, right?

And let's not forget... them + Fawful in the same game. Oh my god, that would start a LOT of internet memes.

I also think the Possessors from Luigi's Mansion Dark Moon have some possibilities for interesting reappearances (at least as a species). Monsters that can take over the forms of living and non living objects and give them abilities beyond what's seen as physically possible? That's almost like the perfect concept for a Steven Moffat Doctor Who episode, and an absolutely GREAT one for a Luigi's Mansion 3 or a Mario ghost house level.

KAOS from Donkey Kong Country 3 could be interesting too. Donkey Kong Land 3 showed he eventually gained something of an AI/independent way to operate without the captured Kongs, so it seems like he could play an interesting future role as a sort of 'dragon' style character to K Rool. Or just another initially competent but then bumbling henchman.

And hey, let's not forget about those guys from Wario Master of Disguise (aka Count Cannoli and Carpaccio). Yeah, they had a horrible debut game, but they have pretty cool character designs, great theme music and the potential to be very, very interesting recurring Wario series characters. Bring 'em back alongside Rudy and maybe the Shake King, and you could give our favourite anti hero something of a rogue's gallery...

Here is a guy that I really should have mentioned earlier:

Foreman Spike ( Wrecking Crew
Wrecking Crew 98 Mobile Golf)
6TDGiW0-1.jpg

I love the Wrecking Crew games and Spike is by far the the most interesting character to emerge from them.
On the surface he may just seem like a prototype for Wario( the latter started of as a pur anti Mario as we know), but what really sets him apart is just how bluntly evil he is, I mean he is trying to "defeat" the brothers (in the original game) on a construction site (with bombs and a set of mooks), that's a pretty blunt attempt at murder if you ask me (this was before Super Mario Bros and the Mushroom Kingdom remember) .
Sure they do reference him a lot , via Waluigi oddly enough, but I really want to see this guy again, he could become the anti Mario that Wario used to be, in his early days, or the main antagonist of a Wrecking Crew revival.

How about some characters that are not from well known franchises?

Barbara the Bat from Jam with the Band

Jam-With-The-Band-featured-image%5B1%5D.jpg

It's true we need more female protagonists in Nintendo games but why do they all have to be Magical Fairy Princesses? Barbara is a badass punk rocker girl with a sadistic sense of humor. She's already appeared in a couple of games including Master of Illusion. She's the lead guitarist, of course, with her little bro Tingting on bass and Pockin on the "drums". Get on her good side and she'll lead you to fame and fortune! Get on her bad side and well...

Donbe & Hikari from Shin Onigashima

ec1df52562f5c1a350e7f4759921774d.jpg

You might recognize these kids from the Melee trophy, or helping them in Kirby's Dreamland 3. Hikari had a big role in Captain Rainbow too. Donbe is the little boy with the blue hair and super strength. Hikari acts as his big sister, she's very protective of him. Together they will conquer the oni (ogres) and get their adoptive parents' souls back. These guys are much cooler duo than the Ice Climbers and they don't even have ice powers! Ha!

Wart (final boss of SMB2USA), mainly because Shy Guys are in Yoshi's Island (as well as Birdo in spin-offs). Heck he can even talk, yet only mentions a story about him in the manual.

Orcos (final boss of Kid Icarus of Myths and monsters). Sure all you did was face the thing, but it had two different forms (one big form in great detail for a GB, one small) and he was never even mentioned at all (or the other 3 bosses in the game) in KIU. Almost as if it doesn't belong in the story even though some of the enemies are the same. I would make a guess this happens in a post apocalyptic time where there is no color in the sky after KIU.

Cackletta from Mario & Luigi: Superstar Saga.

746px-Cackletta.png

By far the most underrated villain of the Mario RPGs, Cackletta is an evil Beanish witch who appeared in SSS alongside her underling, Fawful. A well written and well designed villain, Cackletta seeks the Beanstar, a prize artifact held in Beanbean Castle. It's said that it can be grant any and all wishes, however it has been in deep slumber for a long time. Only the voice of someone pure of heart can awaken the Beanstar. Princess Peach is the only one who possesses such a voice, so Cackletta nabs her voice and sets her plan to awaken the Beanstar into motion. I could go into more detail as to why she's a great character, but I want to avoid some major spoilers for the game.

also her theme is fricking amazing hue

Would really love to see Nintendo pick up this series again. Sadly Captain Rainbow did not make it overseas one of the themes in game has for smash 4, tomorrow's passion. Knowing Nintendo has acknowledged Captain Rainbow in smash 4 makes me hopeful as the game had a bunch of fun minigames and interesting characters from Nintendo's past including Mac himself.

Namco needs to learn to listen to fans and bring this guy back (Alongside "Classic/World" Pac-Man):
331

...Oh, Also Starfy needs to be localized more. And better be in Smash 5. :Y

Klonoa was awesome. I liked that game a bunch.

With Banjo Kazooie being as popular as they were, and the fact that Rare still exists, I cant believe nothing has been done with them since the N64.

I also think it would be cool to see more of Sheik from OoT again. I know he was an OoT character and all, but it would be cool if Nintendo could revisit him again, and like have Zelda somehow use him in a storyline again.
