So when you make jokes about others, its totally justified and cool. But when others do with you, you have to make a big scene publicly and convince others to feel bad for you. Gotcha.

For the most part, making playful jokes at people is something done between friends : p When you do it with someone you openly have problems with, its not gonna be taken as playful teasing between two friends : p
Even with that sometimes people can misconstrue your intentions because text can only carry so much meaning.
Emotes are always my personal fall back if I make jokes because a silly face can help carry on the meaning you intended.
