Unpopular Video Game Opinions

Actually OoT is like somewhere in the middle for me. MM and WW beat it by a fair margin, and stylistically I like TP more. Hell, I enjoy Skyward Sword more than I enjoy OoT. (Tbf that's just because I like character development and Skyward Sword actually has that.)

I just kinda get annoyed when I browse Zelda forums and people either act like OoT is the golden standard, or act like it's a dated piece of garbage. Why can't we have middle grounds anymore?

In regards to Sonic Mania...it certainly looks like it's coming along nicely. But I just can't bring myself to care for it. But it's more to do with the time it was announced than any issue with the game itself.

I mean, sure, the announcement might have been timely for others, but for me, it couldn't have come at a worse time if it tried. Like, it came when my resentment at Sega was at an all-time high, thanks in no small part to Cranky Food Friends (immature, I know), and even now, I can't bring myself to even be excited for Sonic Mania.

Basically, it's such a low priority, I don't even know if it's on my radar. While others are craving every bit of news that comes out of the game, I have to be reminded it's even coming out at all. Heck, I only post this because I was reminded of its existence.

You would not have seen this reaction out of me three years earlier, where any Sonic game was at least somewhere on the top of my radar; now you have to remind me it's coming at all to get me to even think of anything to say about it.

I was considering if I've actually got any unpopular video game opinions...
This might do. Mario Kart Super Circuit's Rainbow Road is my favourite Rainbow Road (of those I've played), and its music is my favourite Rainbow Road music.

I don't like the extremely detailed artworks that Nintendo makes nowadays like in this picture

It's nice that modern computer animations can be that detailed, but I don't quite like these ¨hyper-realistic¨ designs. This style is much better IMO:

I felt the same way about Mario's SSB Brawl design but i like the oddysey one. Its kinda surreal seeing Mario's detailed hair but i think its fine. I love the overalls but then theirs the shoes. Shiny shoes are fine but his shoes are TOO. DAMN. SHINY. They look like buttered buns for crying out loud.

Okay, here are some unpopular ones:

Mario Kart 8 is not my favourite Mario Kart game, nor the best in the series. Not sure why, I just don't enjoy it compared to the other games.

I also don't care much for its soundtrack. It does have some songs I like (ironically, it's mostly the F-Zero and Zelda remixes rather than the Mario ones), but I don't consider most of it memorable at all. Why is this? Well, I suspect the real answer is that thanks to the live orchestra and such, the basic melodies in the music seem a lot less... catchy than in past Mario Kart games. Like the composers tried to make the music fit the theme as they went along rather than really stand out.

Additionally, I don't care too much for modern Donkey Kong Country style level designs. Or modern Mario 3D game style level designs. That's because I like levels that stay intact as you play through them, not ones that to pieces as you reach the end like some sort of special effects heavy movie scene. Feels like modern platformers are more interested in creating scenes than worlds.

Finally, Amiibo can go to hell. They're just on disc DLC wrapped up in a cute figure, and it absolutely baffles me how okay most Nintendo fans are with that. You already own everything those Zelda Amiibos unlock in Breath of the Wild. Nintendo just wants to make you pay an extra $50+ for it.

In the case of Donkey Kong Country, are you referring to those giant statues that fall down as you run underneath them, and stuff like that? Because that's what amazed me the most about the level design in DKC Returns.

Yeah, sorry.

It's fine if others like them, but I like levels that feel like worlds, not scenes. I don't want every platformer to be a speedrun game or super flashy.

Nooooo! d:( They're so good!
In my opinion, the things Amiibo do are negligible: I never scan any Amiibo, and yet I own three, and wouldn't mind getting more. They're just so nice to look at!! d:)
