MORE FAMICOM RAMBLING
Well this is more to do with my interest in beta stuff than actual preference of the Famicom but i like Yume Kush Dank Dank Pani- I mean Yume Koujo Doki Doki Panic more than Super Mario Bros. USA. That being said it only makes a smidgeo of difference because you gotta beat the game with every character, Which i actually like because you gotta take a more exploratory aproach and master each level as oppose to taking the easy way out with SMB2 character select. The real trade off is that Doki Doki Panic has saves and unlimited continues (thanks disk system!) where as SMB2 gives you 2 continues and no save feature but it adds a run button, that's right Doki Doki Panic didn't have it.
I like not having a run button, "T3WB, your MAD!" Again, i like the exploratory approach and the run button makes somethings skippable and whether you like it or not this game DOES NOT need the run button. You move faster when holding something and that speed increase differs between characters but the B button cancels that facet of strategy, That also explains why toad is fast in SM3DW.
But you have the unlimited tries to practice witout the run button and git gud and i see that limited continues brings back some of the challenge but going back to the title screen urks me beyond believe, especially when you are on your VERY last hit and the eagle face comes to live but you didn't know so you die and gotta restart because trial and error.
My final verdict is that Yume Koujo Doki Doki Panic is just barely better than Super Mario Bros. USA, it really doesn't make a big difference to me though so i'm down for either game.
