  • I discovered that I accidentally recreated that screeching sound from Fist of the North Star using Subtractor in Reason. .....wait a minute, since I have control over its pitch as well, and as such can remake the "KEOWAA" from Dragon Ball, does that mean I've essentially unlocked The 80's Action Anime Sound Effect
    So I came across this:

    (Don't ask how; long story.)
    It made me think: have you ever used a Yoshi's Island soundfont for one of your covers? The soundfont of that game is very suitable for making covers.

    I used the Baby Bowser electric guitar in this one for the solo, but besides that I haven't made anything that uses it in that context.

    okay, so i was making one just now, and as a side effect I discovered that one of DooM Snes's violin is the Yoshi's Island recorder but with Modulation, altered Delay and Sustain settings, and Mega Man X Reverb
    I accidentally discovered how that "U'weh, weh, weh, weh" sound (just before the bats show up) at the start of the original Scooby-Doo intro works. It's a really heavy Wah-Wah-- I don't know the exact settings, other than my guess that it uses high resonance, low depth, and an LFO frequency of about 3.4Hz-- but that's definitely one of if not the effects being utilized there, surely.

    "low-frequency oscillator", if I recall. It's kind of hard to nail, but despite the name being accurate to what it is literally, it's not really accurate to how it works in practice. like, when a value's been altered to something besides the default, the LFO is what did that. Pitch-bend, Modulation, Phaser, all that shit, it's all LFO. It's hard to explain, but basically any time you're inserting Edit Events for any fuckin' thing that's technically an LFO. I don't know, man, it's hard to explain. I know a fuckton about LFO, what it do and how through experience, but I've never had to think about it in terms of actual words.

    Hmm, when I read ''frequency of about 3.4 Hz'', I almost automatically thought LFO was the modulation frequency of FM-based vibrato, or something closely related to it.
    tahutoa
    tahutoa
    well, that's the thing. It can be if you so desire. Loik I was sayin', LFO's a very flexible sort of thing.
    So this guy hummed this five note pattern in my Film Class, and he said that was the Citizen Kane main theme, and then after transcribing it, I realized that the section of "Pokey's House" that utilizes 3/4 time is totally that exact motif but raised by a minor third.

    Nice, but you realise there can be a lag of up to two minutes one some computer systems, right?

    I said it could have happened, not that it actually did. Maybe you should give yourself the benefit of the doubt.
    Here's a fun Halloween fact for you: the term "warlock" actually is derived from a term meaning 'oathbreaker' or 'deceiver'. Male practicioners of magick* would still be called witches. It just so happens that warlocks are the specific "Sauron/Saruman" kind of oathbreakers, as I understand it, accruing unimaginable power through unholy means. So, if you think about it, most people are technically using it incorrectly. The Winter Warlock totally is an actual warlock, though, because like are you kidding fr that homie was up to all kinds of evil-ass magick before Santa got to him, you gotta be committing some kind of mortal sins to get that kind of powah.

    *that's how I like to shorthand for 'black magic'

    In unrelated news, I wonder how many people know Horror Land's theme has a Celesta in it.

    I'm not '''''''woke'''''''. Ugh, I hate that word almost as much as I hate ''Waifu''.
    Believe me, I would be the last one on earth to get woke. It's just that I thought it would be funny to pronounce the entire official name of the game and console, complete with trademarks and all. Like ''O boy, I sure do love playing Wario Land 4 [trademark] on my front-lit, built-in battery Nintendo [copyright] Gameboy Advance SP [trademark] handheld video game system.''

    By the way, you did a really good job at voicing Ernie [trademark]. wariosm2;

    Nah nah nah Ernie's got one of them backlit modded GBA's (AGS-001, I think; the model in the picture)

    As for the woke part, I meant in reference to knowing about the Celesta. I never use it in any context where it could easily be replaced with "rad".
    To be honest, Crazy Wario makes more sense than Drunk Wario. Like, who gets drunk from a mug of beer shattering atop their head? I'd imagine being concussed is probably about the same, disorientation-wise.

    It makes more sense indeed, but Drunk Wario is much funnier. If it wasn't for those pesky European and American censors...

    At least now we can say Wario canonically got drunk. And that's something Id personally like to believe.

    against his will, of course. Wario is a good honest-working clean man; he's old money.
    Did we ever get an explanation for why Shokora's closeup sprite and far-shot sprite had two different color schemes?
    Like, you could argue the dress was purple-ish and for the hair they went on SNES rules but I mean it's not like they wouldn't have been able to use the same palette as the closeup, since it and the head are the same sprite and the dress is closer to a rosy shade in the closeup anyway. Not to mention the crown's jewelry is green instead of aquamarine, for some reason. ...So-- why the difference in hue? :shokorashrug:

    What is that ''it'' your eyes supposedly have?

    le ad said:
    "IT". . . that subtle something which attracts others . . . usually lies in the eyes.
    You know how "eyes are the window to the soul", right. Basically the ad was saying you could make your eyes look like that of someone who oozed charisma. The thing is, though, they're going to radiate that with their entire being, because they actually have "IT". Yer fuckin' eyeballs ain't going to fool anyone for long, and certainly not anyone who really knows you.

    In other words, to give you an idea, "IT" is whatever the fuck it is about a woman that makes the average bloke go "god damn, there's just somethin' about her man". Otherwise known as charisma (and it's not actually gender-specific, obviously, but by-and-large the "IT" campaign was female-based). As you can see from the shitty ad, the whole consumer racket corrupted the idea by planting this underlying idea that "IT" was specifically the kind that when exuded makes people want to "be with you" (read: fuck you). This is because, obviously, despite how prim and proper people were even as recently as the 1950's, the general consuming public is composed of vulgar fucks that wanna fuck, and probably always will be. "Sex sells". And also people have always fallen for stupid advertising campaigns which promise to land you a date in spite of your boring personality. History shows again and again how nature ones up the folly of men.

    Whoa, there's more about that than I thought.
    endorse in Murine eye drops to make your eyes look less dull and lifeless, then you'll finally trick people into thinking you aren't a milquetoast cow as we here at Murine know you to be. even after they spend time with you they'll be none the wiser. also we do miracles

    Note: the notation for the drums is all wrong, and the panning/preset choices for some of the instruments are wrong as well, but the actual sequence data is exactly the same. If I find one that's literally identical I'll update this post, but for the moment this is as good as I can get, so I'll continue to believe that the game's creator did some mixing himself to make it work for GS until I do.
    List of men who make yellow work:

    The hero from DQ8 looked nice in yellow.

    Aika from skies of Arcadia looked good, too.

    excuse me, I said men

    As for DQ8's pirate boi, ehhhhh I guess, but it seems to me like yellow isn't the main focus color there. It looks to me like an equal balance between the blue and yellow was intended. They're both primary colors, and while they do complement each other, they still more-or-less cancel each other out as far as if one of them was the main color or not because of it. Symbolizing how the character is Joe Everyman, his clothes are a sort of variety pack of the Big Four (which is, as we all know, the four Uno colors)
    To elaborate on my own choices,
    Greg's color is yellow because his pants are black;
    Pac-Man's is yellow because, while red is also a primary color, it's a warm color, and that coupled with the orange gloves leads to a gradient sort of vibe;
    Wario's is yellow because it's complemented by three cool colors, and the rather eye-drawing hat's very obviously majorly yellow.
    Do you think it's possible to make a good remix/waahrangement/whatever you call it out of this classic dance track by Wariofying it? (Basically replacing the beeps with Wah's and using a Wario Land sound for the countermelody.) I think I'd be hilarious.

    Hardly hilarious; somewhat amusing, though. It might be fun, though. We'll see...

    Dunno, I have seen pretty funny remixes of this song using samples. But you're right, let's see...
    I just discovered that Crash Bandicoot's Acoustic Piano preset uses a sample which is eerily similar to Wario Land 4's Honky-Tonk once you add an octave to a given note, and especially when you turn Modulation to max to simulate WL4's sample looping really early.
