  • I just discovered that Crash Bandicoot's Acoustic Piano preset uses a sample which is eerily similar to Wario Land 4's Honky-Tonk once you add an octave to a given note, and especially when you turn Modulation to max to simulate WL4's sample looping really early.
Do you know if there's a standard name for that electric piano-like sound that you can hear in so many 80's ballads? (You know, that sound that's also used for the melody of SM64's Dire Dire Docks.)

I'm not sure! I think it might be a Wulitzer EP, but it's been a long time since I've used that preset. I'll have to check.
Nope, not that. I guess it really is a Rhodes after all.

But yeah, uhhh, I think it's a Rhodes electric piano, but with a Chorus effect, an extended Release time, and a slight Attack value (meaning the part where it reaches max volume is delayed a tiny bit, in this case; in other words, a really quick fade-in, if you didn't know how Attack works). It's also worth noting that I'm pretty sure there's more than one kind of Rhodes, or at least more than one setting for its timbre-- one of them's bound to be the right sound. Other than that I don't know. That sounds right to me, though, so take it for what you will. Congratulations on (presumably) making it out of hospice, btw!

Ah, I see. It's a bit more complicated than I thought, as I didn't expect it to be a sound that is different on each keyboard brand/model.

And yes, I'm out of hospital. For over a week now, and I feel much better.

Well, I don't know, I've never actually seen a Rhodes EP in real life, I've only got what my plethora of different soundfont patches tell me. As far as I know, the Rhodes Electric Piano is just an electric piano with different settings of fancy to choose from.
If you could have one of them voice act for you, would you rather have Lorenzo Music or Sterling Holloway

this is actually a really fucking difficult decision
@CM30 So, what's the point of HIGNFY? Is it supposed to be a sort-of "here's the latest headline, which we will riff off of, with a bit of a game show on the side" type of deal?

    HIGNFY? Have I missed something?

Oh, Have I Got News For You?
    Pretty much. It's quite funny.
When it's zoomed out like this my current PFP looks like an adorable little horned Fraggle+Wild Thing hybrid.

I NEVER LISTENED TO THE WORDS, OKAY!?
TIL (albeit via listening to the game's sound files) that you can pull boxes in Half-Life 1.

VG Music reminds me of the internet from the good old days, where people ran sites out of a love for the topic rather than because they raised a ton of venture capital or what not.

careful there mate, your old man is showing.
Even back then the internet was much the same as it is now, the only difference is the technology was still new and the dumbfuck fat cats weren't any good at making their websites yet, assuming they could even be bothered.
I can hardly see what's so "good old" about dial-up, and everything in general being so primitive and shit that VGMusic's "This may take a few moments depending on the speed of your connection and the size of your file" disclaimer actually applied.
Uh oh, Magma got rid of his pfp, deleted his flavor text, and limited who can see his profile. Admittedly I've never been the biggest fan, but I hope he's alright :-(
One of the most annoying things about being retarded is all the fucking shit interrupting my work. It makes you so frustrated and angry, because it doesn't fucking matter but won't go away so "it might as well". Like fuck off, you're destroying my sense of flow and taking me out of my zone for THAT? It's like trying to walk to the shops or w/e and a fucking bespectacled man jumps out in front of you every fifteen meters, like goddammit I still have a good ways to go, get the FUCK out of my WAY
    Okay, question time gamers:

Open your Heart is great, but I'm gonna have to go with Live and Learn for this one.

    Also, @Shoonsh

There are two kinds of people, those who put "Wario Land" before the colon, and those who put "Super Mario Land 3" before the colon.

Well, it was more a question of which part you consider to be the subtitle, but going strictly by how I initially worded it, I suppose so.

Yo, I'm still holding out for an HQ release of Pac-Man World's soundtrack, even if I don't think it's likely. The 20th anniversary of this 20th anniversary title is coming up in a little less than a month, so here's hoping now will be the time Namco fucking does something about it.
I wanna see an anime where the fat girl loses all the weight but retains the deeper voice and need for spectacles.
because you know. that's how it fucking works.
Do you know if there's an app or programme that allows you to accurately measure the pitch (preferably in both note name and Hertz) of any given note in a music piece? I could put it to good use.

There's this one app I got off the Google Play store a few years ago, called "Note Recognizer". You'll have to play back the audio right up against your phone's mic-- possibly on loop, because it's kind of a dullard, but as far as note name and Hz go it's top notch.
