[DEAD] Wario Land 3 Hack Project

Yeah, did you try out the No Spikes Edited By WarioLGP version?

I still think the puzzle is better without spikes, because the solution to the puzzle is not obvious.
You gotta do some experimentation.
And i would erather let the player experiment in a more "peaceful" enviorment.

And the Wario Blocks were likely a mistake Haiko made :p
They are intended to be enemy blocks
Yeah, true. My problem with the spikes was that when I got hit the professor would run away and despawn.

One of the thing I liked to do in Super Mario Bros 1 is have a Bullet Bill fired, and then follow it all the way to the end of the level.
I'd like to have a simmilar puzzle, where the Brr Bear, who is behind a air vent, so Wario can't reach him, shoots a snowflake at Wario, and Wario needs to go to the end of the room, keeping the snoflake on screen.
Sounds like a nice idea for the Red or Blue chest of the Frigid Sea to me. Or maby some other optional treasure in another level

Hahahaha, yes, so much! I've done that in practically every level containing either a Bullet Bill Blaster or a Brr Bear xD
Edit: Hey, how about we make an official Desert Ruins prototype? :)
Did you think about the possibilities for tilesets, shyguyXXL?

I just relized, the game has both "Impassable by Enemy" tiles, as well as some tiles that only enemies can pass throught, but Wario can't.

While the "Anty-Enemy" blocks are programmed well, I'm not sure how exactly the "No Wario" are progeammed, as they were only used for squishers.
Drenn, Tile Effect # 49DF is un-specified in the editor. But that's what it is

I bet we can make a bunch of creative puzzles if we use these tiles visely.
We can redesign their graphics to have "Wario head" and "crossed out Wario head". And use both "Wario only" and "Anty Wario" both as platforms and as walls.
I've seen it done in a SMW hack very well, and i think it can be done in a puzzle platformer too, just with a bit more creativaty

So... we'd need tiles for an island...a plant that is open at night...
The thing is, the tileset of the outside area is already pretty jam-packed. So we'd need to remove some tiles. Which ones do we not need?
Since there's a switch in the level they needed to put a whole row of tiles in there twice (so they don't get changed as well) so maybe we could remove switches from the level altogether to make some room for more tiles.

Yeah, this is why I think more research for tile sets (and subtile sets especially) needs to be done, so we know how much room we have.

How do you imagine the result of this research on paper?

This is kind of what i imagine the Desert Ruins, entrance to the Grey Chest to be like.
The door to the Grey Chest can only be reached during the day, via quicksand, but if Wario comes back later, he can get to the door even in the night, and there would be some a Wario coin or 2 for him to collect

How about someone just takes screenshots of each of the tilesets...
(like this: )
tileset.png

...and compiles them into one huge image? (or one image for all North levels, all East levels, etc)
Then we can quickly see which ones are have space left in them and which don't.

As a child, I could not mash the A button fast enough to get through the quick sand, I remember. I would have to reenter the level.

Really? Guess everyone has had something strange as a kid... (I could never crawl correctly (Down+Left/Right) until I found out you can just walk up to a gap)

Pro tip: mashing A too fast is less efficient than tapping a bit slower but holding each tap a tiny bit down.
Just like with Bat Wario or when swimming against currents.
I know, I don't have problems with it or anything, but when you're young, you don't think of such things xD
